Shirley Mae Scherer Obituary

Shirley Mae Scherer, daughter of Pansy Mills Worley of Dexter and the late Herman Maxwell Mills, was born on August 2, 1952 in St. Louis, Missouri and departed this life of December 29, 2015 at her residence in Dexter, Missouri at the age of 63.

 

Mrs. Scherer was a member of the Hills General Baptist Church in rural Bloomfield.  She had worked as the Administrator for The Manor Nursing Home in Poplar Bluff, Missouri since 1977.

 

In January of 1994, she was united in marriage to Dennis Scherer.  Mr. Scherer preceded her in death in February of 2006.

 

She is survived by two sons, Jeff Rogers of Dexter and Brian Rogers and his wife Brandy of Dexter; by one brother, Herman James Mills of Glendale, Arizona; by one daughter-in-law, Robin Phelan Rogers Northern of Dexter; by seven grandchildren, MacKinlee Rogers, Blair Rogers, Miranda Rogers, Devon Rogers, Kenton Sanders, Sydney Rogers and Seth Rogers; and by one great-grandchild, Blakelee Rogers.

 

In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by one son, James Aaron Rogers.

 

Friends may call at the Rainey-Mathis Funeral Home in Dexter on Saturday, January 2, 2016 from 1:00 P. M. to 3:00 P.M. 

 

Funeral services will be conducted in the Rainey-Mathis Funeral Chapel on Saturday, January 2, 2016 at 3:00 P.M. with Rev. Buddy Heaton and Rev. Steve Tippen officiating. 

Interment will follow in the Bloomfield Cemetery.

Delcie Rosabell Hector Waltrip Obituary

Delcie Rosabell Hector Waltrip, daughter of the late Richard Gipson and Carrie Norman Gipson, was born on February 3, 1929 in Mississippi County, Arkansas and departed this life on December 30, 2015 at Crowley Ridge Care Center in Dexter at the age of 86.

Mrs. Waltrip was a member of the Dexter Church of Christ.  She had worked at Gossard Manufacturing in Malden and Elders Manufacturing in Dexter and was a resident of Dexter.

On November 24, 1942, she was united in marriage to Samuel H. Hector.  Mr. Hector preceded her in death in 2007.  She was then married to Charles Waltrip in 1981.  Mr. Waltrip preceded her in death.

She is survived by three sons, Samuel Hector and wife Sherry of Dexter, Missouri, Ricky Hector of Wappapello, Missouri and Randy Hector and wife Neva of Malden, Missouri; by one daughter, Charlotte Yvonne Morris and friend Mike of Dexter; by one brother, David Gipson of Highland, California; by three sisters, Oma Fowler of Jackson, Missouri, Nina Stewart of Poplar Bluff, Missouri and Dorothy Duba of Jonesboro, Arkansas; by thirteen grandchildren, twenty-five great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two brothers, Harold Hickson and Marion Gipson; and by one sister, Louise Owens.

 Friends may call at the Rainey-Mathis Funeral Home in Dexter on Monday, January 4, 2016 from 10:00 A.M. to 11:30 A.M. 

Funeral services will be conducted in the Rainey-Mathis Funeral Chapel in Dexter on Monday, January 4, 2016 at 11:30 with Clyde Jacques officiating. 

Interment will follow in the Dexter Cemetery.

JR Ivan O'Daniell, Jr. Obituary

 

“JR” Ivan O’Daniell, Jr., son of the late Ivan Delmar O’Daniell, Sr. and Beatrice Klipstein O’Daniell, was born on June 17, 1935, in Sidney Iowa and departed this life on December 29, 2015 at his residence in Bloomfield, Missouri at the age of 80.

 

Mr. O’Daniell’s initial career in the newspaper industry began as a young boy under the tutelage of his father.  Eventually he purchased and served as Editor for a number of newspapers such as the Cabool Enterprise in Cabool, Missouri, the Fairbury Times in Fairbury, Nebraska, the Grants Beacon in Grants, New Mexico and a newspaper in Culbert, Georgia.  Mr. O’Daniell ended this career when he sold the Bloomfield Vindicator after serving as Editor from 1965 through 1976.   While Editor of the Bloomfield Vindicator, he bought the first copy of the Bloomfield Stars and Stripes Newspaper.  He then donated it to the Stoddard County Historical Society.  Copies of that newspaper were used for the Museum Fundraiser. 

 

JR’s second career in law enforcement was unknowingly sparked as a sixteen-year-old when he served as an accident scene photographer for the New Mexico Highway Patrol.  Following the sale of the Vindicator, JR returned to this interest working as a dispatcher and then a Deputy for the Stoddard County Sheriff’s Office.  He later evolved as a Chief Investigator for the Stoddard County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office until his retirement.  He was the first Commander of the Stoddard County Major Case Squad.  JR was committed to serving his community and helping others through his profession often sacrificing his own time and comfort.

 

JR touched many lives helping others in the area to see a better life.  He was a proud and loving father and the great friend that many will ever know.  He was known by all that loved him for his compassionate heart.  His love for his family, including his furry family, surpassed all others.  JR also enjoyed hunting, fishing and remodeling his home.

 

On August 17, 1980, he was united in marriage to Beverly Bowling in Bloomfield.  Mrs. O’Daniell survives of the home.

 

In addition to his wife, he is survived by one son, Butch O’Daniell and his wife Linda of Bloomfield, Missouri; by four daughters, June Lawrence and her husband Bud of Dexter, Missouri, Sherry O’Daniell-Moore and her husband Rob of Wilmington, North Carolina, Kelly Flowers and her husband Kevin of Dexter, Missouri and Kristina Twaddell and her husband Clint of Bloomfield, Missouri; by two step-sons, Keith Lang and his wife Donna of Poplar Bluff, Missouri and Mark Lang and his wife Sherry of Dexter, Missouri; by one step-daughter, Traci Childers and her husband Steven of Broadway, North Carolina; by seventeen grandchildren, Bridgett Kielhofner, Hunter Lawrence, Erin Moore, Aleshia Flowers, Delaney Flowers, Joe Burch, Clint Burch, Elisha Thomason, Michael Schafer, Elizabeth Twaddell, Kasity Twaddell, Katelyn Lang, Sarah Lang, Brittany Lang, Leah Childers, Amber Childers and Steven Childers; twelve great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.

 

Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Charles Franklin O’Daniell and John Allen O’Daniell and by one sister, Nan Dawson.

 

Friends may call at the Rainey-Mathis Funeral Home in Dexter on Wednesday, December 30, 2015 from 5:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. 

 

Funeral services will be conducted in the Rainey-Mathis Funeral Chapel on Thursday, December 31, 2015 at 10:30 A.M. with Rev. Elijah Allen officiating.  Interment will follow in the Bloomfield Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Alzheimer’s Association, 9370 Olive Boulevard, St. Louis, Missouri 63132-3253 or St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital, P. O. Box 1000, Dept. 142, Memphis, Tennessee 38101-9908.

Gary Launius Obituary

Gary E. Launius, son of the late Ervin “Nub” Launius and Ruby June Hopkins Launius, was born on September 24, 1944 in Bloomfield, Missouri and departed this life on December 28, 2015 at his residence in Bloomfield at the age of 71.

Mr. Launius had worked as the manager of three grocery stores, Big Star, Piggly Wiggly and Swindles in Dexter and Poplar Bluff and was a veteran of the United States Army serving during the Vietnam Era.

Gary had many hobbies in his life.  He loved to hunt, fish and ride speed horses in his earlier years and was a member of the Big River Appaloosa Horse Association.  He and his beloved horse, Popo, won many events and qualified for the world playoffs in 1977.  He shared his love of horses, hunting and fishing with his family especially his grandkids, Kyle and Josey.  He was their biggest fan whether at Kyle's baseball games or Josey's barrel races.  Later he was known as the Watermelon King in Bloomfield.  He enjoyed being out and meeting new people doing this until his health began to fail him.  He always had a big smile and hat to boot.

On November 3, 1979, he was united in marriage to Elaine Robinson in Dexter, Missouri.  Mrs. Launius survives of the home.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by two daughters, Rhonda and her husband Eric Causey and Cody Lynne and her husband Randy Marshall, all of Bloomfield, Missouri; by two brothers, Larry Launius and Glenn Launius, both of Dexter; by two sisters, Ann Edwards of Bloomfield and June Stoker of Dexter; and by two grandchildren, Kyle Causey and Josey McMillan 

Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by one daughter, Rebecca Elaine Robinson and by one brother, Gail Launius.

Friends may call at the Rainey-Mathis Funeral Home in Dexter on Wednesday, December 30, 2015 from 11:00 A.M. to 1:00 P.M. 

Funeral services will be conducted in the Rainey-Mathis Funeral Chapel on Wednesday, December 30, 2015 at 1:00 P.M. with Rev. Ronnie Stevens officiating. 

Interment will follow in the Missouri State Veterans Cemetery in Bloomfield.

Edward Pry Obituary

Edward D. Pry of Bloomfield, son of the late Edgar William and Dollie Steward Pry, was born in Flint, Michigan on September 20, 1929, and passed away at his home near Bloomfield, Missouri on December 25, 2015, at the age of 86 years, 3 months and 5 days.

He had lived in Michigan where he had worked as a meat cutter for the A & P Supermarkets and then was a car inspector with General Motors when he retired. He moved back to Bloomfield in 1989. He was a member of the Jehovah Witnesses and had served in the U. S. Army during the Korean Conflict.

On September 1, 1955, he married Melba Jean Gordon in Hernando, Mississippi.

Surviving are his wife, Melba J. Pry of Bloomfield, Missouri; four sons, Jerry Norman of Lansing, Michigan, Dennis L. Pry of Chadron, Nebraska, Steve Pry of Atlanta, Georgia, Kevin W. Pry of Chehalis, Washington; 6 grandchildren; and one great granddaughter. Other relatives and friends also survive. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Bob Link and Richard Pry; and one sister, Marcella Bowman.

Friends may visit on Wednesday, December 30, 2015, after 10:00 a.m. at the Chiles-Cooper Funeral Home in Bloomfield, Missouri.

Funeral services will be on Wednesday, December 30, 2015, at 11:00 a.m. at the Chiles-Cooper Funeral Home in Bloomfield.

Private interment will follow at the Oak Ridge Cemetery near Bloomfield with Chiles-Cooper Funeral Home of Bloomfield, Missouri in charge of arrangements.
