Malinda Marie Davis

Malinda Marie Davis
Malinda "Marie" Davis, daughter of the late C. J. & Mary Virginia Ellen Rector May, was born in Trousdale, Kansas on December 7, 1922, and passed away at the Lakeview Residential Care Center near Wappapello, Missouri on September 21, 2015, at the age of 92 years, 9 months and 14 days.

Mrs. Davis had lived most of her life in Essex. She was a member of the Olive Branch General Baptist Church in Essex and had worked as a floor supervisor at Elder Manufacturing in Dexter for many years. She enjoyed quilting.

On September 13, 1940, she was married to Charles Arden Davis in Bloomfield, Missouri. He preceded her in death on June 25, 1994.
Surviving are one daughter, Luella "Lu" Smith of Wappapello, Missouri; six grandchildren, many great & great great grandchildren; and Ruthie Craig who she raised. Other relatives and friends survive. She was preceded in death by three sons, Jerry F. , Jimmie G. and Harold Arden Davis; one brother, Charles May and Janie Davis who she raised.

Friends may visit from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday, September 23, 2015, at the Watkins & Sons Funeral Home in Dexter, Missouri.

Funeral services will be held on Thursday, September 24, 2015, at 11:00 a.m. at the Watkins & Sons Funeral Home in Dexter, Missouri with the Rev. Kenneth Biggs of Dexter officiating.

Interment will follow in the Chalk Bluff Cemetery near Dexter, Missouri. Watkins & Sons Funeral Home in Dexter, Missouri in charge of all arrangements.

Gale Elledge

Gale Elledge son of the late Homer Elledge and Versa Shell Elledge was born on July 16, 1933 in Bollinger County, Missouri and departed this life on September 20, 2015 at the Missouri Delta Medical Center in Sikeston at the age of 82.

Mr. Elledge was a Retired Veteran of the United States Air Force where he worked as an Avionics Technician for twenty-two years.  He served his country in the Vietnam War.  He was a member of the V.F.W., American Legion Post #59 and the Dexter Elks Lodge. Mr. Elledge was a former instructor at Southern Illinois University in Carbondale, Illinois. He was a resident of Dexter.

On August 27, 1964 he was united in marriage to Judith Lynn in Dexter.  Mrs. Elledge survives of Dexter.

Besides his wife he is survived by two sons, Matt Elledge of Ft. Hood, Texas and James Elledge of Landstuhl, Germany; by three sisters, Peggy Causey of Dexter, Rose Upp of La Porte, Indiana and Shirley Howell of Mill Creek, Indiana and by four grandchildren, Ben Elledge, Cora Elledge, Kate Elledge and Max Elledge.

Besides his parents he was preceded in death by one sister, Betty Overfelt.

A memorial service will be conducted on Thursday, September, 24, 2015 at 2:30 P.M. in the Rainey-Mathis Funeral Chapel with Rev. Mike Williams officiating. 

Interment will follow in the Missouri State Veterans Cemetery in Bloomfield with Full Military Honors.

In lieu of flowers the family requests all memorials be made to 18 Fore Life, c/o Scott Kruse, 705 Laurie Circle, Dexter, Missouri 63841.

Betty Jean Myers

Betty Jean Myers, daughter of the late William Ray Silliman and Agnes Harris Silliman was born on May 21, 1927 in Essex, Missouri and departed this life on September 20, 2015 at her residence in Arnold, Missouri at the age of 88.

Mrs. Myers had worked at Bussman Fuse Company and later in life at Wal-Mart.  She was of the Baptist Faith.

On June 19, 1945 she was united in marriage to John A. Myers in Piggott, Arkansas.  Mr. Myers preceded her in death on October 7, 1991.

She is survived by one son, Larry Gene Myers of St. Louis County, Missouri; by one daughter, Brenda Garren of Arnold, Missouri; by one sister, Verttle Lee Adams of Dexter; by one half-sister, Peggy Bollinger of Dexter; by one sister in law, Violet Silliman of Dexter and by three grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.

Besides her husband and parents she was preceded in death by one brother, Bill Silliman.

Friends may call at the Rainey-Mathis Funeral Home in Dexter on Thursday, September 24, 2015 from 10:00 A.M. until 12:00 NOON. 

Funeral services will follow at 12:00 NOON in the Rainey-Mathis Funeral Chapel with Preston Owens officiating. 

Interment will follow in the Chalk Bluff Cemetery.

Helen Fay Shipman
Helen Fay Shipman, daughter of the late Frank Ambraus and Ora Bea Morris Stoker, was born in Dexter, Missouri on September 14, 1920, and passed away at the Crowley Ridge Care Center in Dexter, Missouri on September 18, 2015, at the age of 95 years and 4 days.

Mrs. Shipman had lived in Dexter all of her life. She was a member of the First General Baptist Church in Dexter and had worked as a nurses aid at the Dexter Hospital for many years. She enjoyed to crochet, read biographies and do word find puzzles.

On September 29, 1940, she was married to Jerry Lihue Shipman in Malden, Missouri. He preceded her in death on December 12, 2001.

Surviving are two daughters, Janet Putnam of Dexter, Missouri, Geraldine Comte of St. Louis, Missouri; one son, Jerry Dewayne Shipman of Kissimmee, Florida; ten grandchildren, sixteen great grandchildren; seventeen great great grandchildren; one brother, Junior Franklin Stoker of Bloomfield, Missouri; one sister, Clara Bagby of Dexter, Missouri. Other relatives and friends survive.

She was preceded in death by one grandson, three brothers, Lester, Lloyd and Leon Stoker; and four sisters, Noma Glenn, Pearl Vokerdeen, Ruby Snyder and Norma Gough.

Friends may visit from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. on Monday, September 21, 2015, at the Watkins & Sons Funeral Home in Dexter, Missouri.

Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, September 22, 2015, at 11:00 a.m. at the Watkins & Sons Funeral Home in Dexter, Missouri. with the Rev. Kenneth Biggs of Dexter officiating.

Interment will follow in the Hagy Cemetery in Dexter, Missouri. Watkins & Sons Funeral Home in Dexter, Missouri in charge of all arrangements.

Jay W. Shubert

Jay W. Shubert, son of the late John E. Shubert and Norma Lewis Overton, was born on February 6, 1952 in Poplar Bluff, Missouri and departed this life on September 15, 2015 at his residence at the age of 63.

Mr. Shubert worked as a carpenter and was a resident of Puxico.

On May 8, 1978, he was united in marriage to Kathleen Rogers in Kennewick, Washington.  Mrs. Shubert survives of the home.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by two sons, Kenneth Shubert of Puxico, Missouri and Chad Shubert of Siloam Springs, Arkansas; by two daughters, Marcie Smith of Rogers, Arkansas and Darla Shubert of Puxico, Missouri; by one brother, Johnny Shubert of Benton, Washington and one half-brother, Joe Overton of Puxico, Missouri; by three sisters, Evelyn Gladin of Edmonton, Canada, Bevlyn Clark of Wappappello, Missouri and Patsy Daniels of Poplar Bluff, Missouri; by three half-sisters, Sarah Rogers of Summers, Arkansas, Sally Waller of Puxico, Missouri and Sandra Julius of Puxico, Missouri; and by three grandchildren.

The family is holding a private memorial service at a later date. 


All arrangements are being handled by the Rainey-Mathis Funeral Home in Dexter.
