Sarah Lynne Hillis

Sarah Lynne Hillis, daughter of the late Harlan B. Heffelfinger and Audrey Mae Ellwood Heffelfinger, was born on June 24, 1939 in Beatrice, Nebraska and departed this life on June 4, 2015 at her residence in Essex at the age of 75.

Mrs. Hillis was a member of the United Methodist Church in Essex and she worked as the Postmaster for the U.S. Post Office in Essex

On January 26, 1958, she was united in marriage to Danny S. Hillis in Austin, Texas.  Mr. Hillis survives of the home.

In addition to her husband, she is survived by two sons, Harlan Gregory Hillis and David Scott Hillis, both of Essex; by one brother, Harlan Michael Heffelfinger and his wife Jackie of Thaxton, Virginia; by one sister, Virginia Ann Heffelfinger of Springfield, Missouri; by five grandchildren, Miranda Banken, Halona Link, Liz Strickland, Mallory Hillis and McKenzie Hillis; and by seven great-grandchildren, Brooklyn Link, Ainsley Strickland, Lux Strickland, Kingston Banken, Farah Banken, Morgan Strickland and Kashlyn Kelley.

A graveside service will be conducted Saturday, June 20, 2015 at 10:00 A.M. at Essex Cemetery with Rev. Roy Sherfield officiating. 

Arrangements are under the direction of Rainey-Mathis Funeral Home in Dexter.

Gary Stephen McWaters, 60, of Sikeston, died June 14, 2015, at the St. Francis Medical Center in Cape Girardeau. Born July 13, 1954, in Sikeston, to the late W.C. and Geraldine Vent McWaters.

He was a member of the St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church in Sikeston.

On August 12, 1976, in Matthews, he married Ginger Walls, who survives of the home.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by four brothers and sisters-in-law, Allan and Debbie McWaters of Willard, Mo., Russell and Jennifer McWaters of Sierra Vista, Ariz., John and Judy McWaters of Springfield, and Scott and Christina McWaters of Sikeston.

Visitation will begin at 10 a.m. until time of the funeral service at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, June 17, 2015, at the Nunnelee Funeral Chapel. Rev. Maria Thumma of the St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church will officiate.

Interment will follow in the Matthews Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Pete Vent, Carlos Mallory, Scott McWaters, Richard Whiffen, Russell McWaters and Kelly Nelson.

Sandra Sue Quick
Sandra Sue Quick, daughter of the late Floyd & Gladys Stephens Leathers, was born in East Alton, Illinois on October 21, 1944, and passed away at her home in Arnold, Missoui on June 12, 2015, at the age of 70 years, 7 months and 22 days.

Sandra had lived in Dexter until 1967 when she moved to Arnold. She had worked at the Good Samaritan Retirement Home until she retired. She enjoyed collecting Hummel figurines.

On July 22, 1967 she was married to Dennis Quick in Dexter.

Surviving are her husband, Dennis Quick of Arnold; two daughters, Debra & Denise; and four grandchildren. Other relatives and many friends also survive.

Friends may call after 11:00 a.m. on Sunday, June 14, 2015, at the Watkins & Sons Funeral Home in Dexter, Missouri.

Graveside services will be held on Sunday, June 14, 2015, at 1:00 p.m. at the Dexter Cemetery with the Rev. Kenneth Biggs of Dexter officiating.

Interment will follow in the Dexter Cemetery in Dexter, Missouri. Watkins & Sons Funeral Home in Dexter, Missouri in charge of all arrangements.

Geraldine Whitledge
Geraldine "Geri" Whitledge, daughter of the late James Ralph and Madge Mae Lincoln McFerron, born near Bloomfield on December 26, 1922, and went to be with her heavenly Father at the Golden Living Center in Bloomfield, Missouri on June 11, 2015, at the age of 92 years.

A resident of Bloomfield all her life, and a member of First Baptist Church in Bloomfield. Her passion was the Helping Hands Ministry at the church which she helped establish after her retirement from being the head cook at the Bloomfield Public Schools. She loved quilting, cooking, the Cardinals and especially being with her family.

October 5, 1940 she was married to Jess Williard "Jay" Whitledge in Bloomfield. He preceded her in death on June 10, 2003.

Surviving are three daughters and spouses, Carolyn Brown of West Des Moines, Iowa, Ruthie (Wayne) Kem of Jefferson City, Louise (Rick) Causey of Bloomfield; eight grandchildren & spouses, Jay (Nicole) Spoonhour of Charelston, Illinois, Stephen (Lisa) Spoonhour of Overland Park, Kansas, Matt (Kate) Brown of Windsor Heights, Iowa, Heather (Jeff) Crocker of Prior Lake, Minnesota, Jason (Aimee) Kem of Wildwood, Missouri, Eric (Rhonda) Causey, Travis (Tonya) Causey all of Bloomfied, Dana (Nate) Thomas of Cape Girardeau; seventeen great grandchildren; two sisters, Irene Wilkinson of St. Louis, Lois Carrier of Dexter; and one brother & spouse, Kenneth (Rita) McFerron of Brownsburg, Indiana.

Preceded in death by brother, Clayton McFerron and sister, Jewell Capps.

Visitation, Sunday, June 14, 2015, after 1:00 p.m. at the Watkins & Sons Funeral Home in Dexter, Missouri with funeral services to follow at 2:30 p.m. in the chapel with Steve Morrison of Bloomfield officiating.

Interment in the North Antioch Cemetery near Bloomfield with Chiles-Cooper Funeral Home of Bloomfield in charge of arrangements.

Charles DeWain Tipton, Jr.

Charles DeWain “Tip” Tipton Jr., son of Charles Tipton Sr. and Eva Mason Tipton of Bernie was born on May 31, 1953 in Rural Bernie and departed this life on June 10, 2015 at the Lutheran Home of Cape Girardeau at the age of 62.

“Tip” was known across Southeast Missouri during his thirty years at Autry Morlan as a wrecker driver.  He was a Veteran of the Missouri Army National Guard.

Besides his parents he is survived by one son, Darrin and wife Beth Tipton of Jackson, Missouri; by one daughter, Julie and husband Dustin Hopkins of Jackson, Missouri; by three grandchildren, Sarah Tipton, Wyatt Hopkins and Walker Hopkins; by one brother, Darrell Tipton of Dexter; by three sisters, Deane Plunkett of Williamsville, Missouri, Beckie Vineyard of Sevierville, Tennessee and Amy Blough of Bernie.

Friends may call at the Rainey-Mathis Funeral Home in Dexter on Friday, June 12, 2015 from 5:00 P.M. until 8:00 P.M. 

Funeral services will then be conducted on Saturday, June 13, 2015 at 2:00P.M. in the Rainey-Mathis Funeral Chapel with Rev. Dean Williams officiating. 

Interment will follow in the Chalk Bluff Cemetery.
