Phyllis Jean Stewart

Phyllis Jean Stewart

Phyllis Jean Stewart, daughter of the late James H. Carney and Myrtus Cooper Carney was born on October 13, 1934 in Dexter and departed this life on January 8, 2015 at the Cypress Point Skilled Nursing Center in Dexter at the age of 80.

Mrs. Stewart was a lifetime member of the First General Baptist Church in Dexter, she worked all her life.  Later in life she was able to take care of a lovely lady, Reaven McKee, who was like a sister to her. 

On February 23, 1954 she was united in marriage to Wyman Rudy Stewart in Sardis, Mississippi.  Rudy survives of their home in Dexter.

Besides her husband she is survived by one daughter and son-in-law, Denya and Archie Thurston of O’Fallon, Missouri; by one son and daughter-in-law, Brent and Kiesha Stewart of Dexter; four beautiful granddaughters, Miya and husband Daniel Switser of Dallas, Texas, Kailey Thurston, Kara Thurston and Alexis Thurston all of O’Fallon, Missouri; one great-grandson, Hayden Thurston of O’Fallon, Missouri; by one brother, Kenneth and wife Shirley Carney of Bloomfield; by two sisters, Brenda and David Eldred of Springfield, Missouri and Rebecca Stauart of Canada and many nieces and nephews.

Besides her parents she was preceded in death by one son, Wyman Lee Stewart; by one brother, James D. Carney and by one sister, Linda Gastineau.

Friends may call at the Rainey-Mathis Funeral Chapel in Dexter on Friday, January 9, 2015 from 5:00 P.M. until 8:00 P.M. 

Funeral services will be conducted on Saturday, January 10, 2015 at 2:00 P.M. in the Rainey-Mathis Funeral Chapel with Rev. Kenneth Biggs and Rev. John Carney officiating. 

Interment will follow in the Dexter Cemetery.

Hilda Rowland Myers

Hilda I. Rowland Myers, daughter of the late John Thomas Rowland and Myrtle Rector Rowland, was born on February 1, 1919 in Cuba, Missouri and departed this life on January 5, 2015 at Mulberry Manor in Dexter at the age of 95.

Mrs. Myers was a member of the First Baptist Church in Dexter and a resident of Dexter.  She was a former employee of Elders Manufacturing in Dexter, she helped on the farm and was a homemaker.

On February 3, 1940, she was united in marriage to Clarence Franklin “Pete” Myers in Paris Tennessee.  Mr. Myers preceded her in death on November 17, 2000.

She is survived by one son, Larry Myers and his wife Rhonda of Port St. Lucie, Florida; by two daughters, Barbara Stanfield and her husband Tom of Farmington, Missouri and Linda Hollrah and her husband Larry of The Villages, Florida; by one brother, John Rowland of Dexter; by four grandchildren, Dr. Mark Stanfield and his wife Anna, Scot Hollrah and his wife Mimi, Vicki Daley and her husband Matthew and Stephanie Myers; and by four great-grandchildren, Kaitlin Marie Stanfield, Isabelle Grace Stanfield, Mackenzie Daley and Dawson Daley.

In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by two brothers, Tom Rowland and Marvin Rowland; and by one sister, Gertrude Virginia Davis.

Friends may call at the Rainey-Mathis Funeral Home in Dexter on Saturday, January 10, 2015 from 5:00 P.M. to 7:00 P.M. 

Funeral services will be conducted on Sunday, January 11, 2015 at 2:00 P.M. with Rev. Ray Rowland officiating.  Interment will follow in the Dexter Cemetery.

Danny R. Gregg

Danny R. Gregg, son of the late S. T. Gregg, Jewell Lorren Gregg and Joann Gregg, was born on July 21, 1954 in Detroit, Michigan and departed this life on January 4, 2015 at the Cancer Treatment Center in Tulsa, Oklahoma at the age of 60. 

Mr. Gregg was a member of the Dexter church of Christ and was a resident of Dexter.   He had worked in Probation and Parole in Poplar Bluff and Dexter and later retired as the 37th District Administrator of Probation and Parole, and he was a veteran of the United States Air Force.  He enjoyed his retirement years traveling in his RV and spending time with his family.

On March 2, 2001, he was united in marriage to Teri Proctor Sherman in Doniphan, Missouri.  Mrs. Gregg survives at the home.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by one son, Bradley Gregg and his wife Alysia of Columbia, Tennessee; by three daughters, Melanie Mills and her husband Chris of Dexter, Stasha Barlow and her husband Cody of Payson, Arizona and Nicole Lockridge  of Mayer, Arizona; by two brothers, Kenny Gregg and his wife Robin of Bloomfield and Matt Gregg and his wife Barbara of Monroe, Louisiana; by two sisters, Patsy Hardy of Bloomfield and Jennifer Mayes and her husband Marty of Clarklake, Michigan; by Danielle Bateman; and by sixteen grandchildren, Esther Gregg, Alexis Gregg, Nicodemus Gregg, Effigenia Gregg, Kelsey Barlow, Joshua Barlow, Caleb Barlow, Tyler Lockridge, Timothy Lockridge, Ryan Lockridge, Colsyn Mills, Marci Claire Mills, Rylan Mills and Larsyn Mills, Tyler Bateman and Colby Bateman.

Friends may call at the Rainey-Mathis Funeral Home in Dexter on Thursday, January 8, 2015 from 5:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. 

Funeral services will be conducted at the Dexter church of Christ on Friday, January 9, 2015 at 10:00 A.M. 

Interment will follow with full military honors in the Missouri State Veterans Cemetery in Bloomfield.

Bootheel Youth Camp held a special place in his heart from youth to present.  In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be made to the Bootheel Youth Camp, c/o Laura Tessons, 201 Adams Drive, Dexter, Missouri 63841.

Berbage D. Bryant, son of the late Carmie B. Bryant and Mae Odell Anderson Bryant, was born on August 2, 1919 in Holland, Missouri and departed this life on January 5, 2015 at Crowley Ridge Care Center in Dexter at the age of 95.

Mr. Bryant was the owner of Bryant Real Estate in Dexter and a resident of Dexter.

On January 16, 1959, he was united in marriage to Charlotte Johnson in St. Louis, Missouri. She preceded him in death on May 18, 1984. On July 1, 1989, he was married to Juanita Norman in Bernie, Missouri. Mrs. Bryant survives of the home.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by one son, James Johnson of Dexter; by two daughters, Markie Lynn Farnham of Calis, Maine and Doris Johnson of Dexter; by two sisters, Mellie Watterson of Caruthersville and Mary Taylor of San Carlos, California; by five grandchildren, LaDonna Beers, Trinka Hileman, Charlotte Jean Smith, Aleea Farnham and Thomas Farnham; and by three great-grandchildren, Morgan Hileman, Haley Garcia and Nolan Smith.

Besides his first wife and parents, he was preceded in death by two sisters, Vera and Audrey.

Friends may call at the Rainey-Mathis Funeral Home in Dexter on Wednesday, January 7, 2014 from 12:30 p.m. to 2:00 p.m.

Funeral services will be conducted in the Rainey-Mathis Funeral Chapel at 2:00 p.m. with Rev. Tim Russell officiating.

Interment will follow in the Hagy Cemetery in Dexter.
