Mary Ellen Petry

Mary Ellen Petry, daughter of the late Linus Petry and Marjorie Thomason Petry Davis, was born at Campbell, Missouri on July 26, 1949 and departed this life at her residence in Cape Girardeau, Missouri on May 24, 2014 at the age of 64.

Ms. Petry had been a cook on a Riverboat.

Survivors include two sisters, Matilda White of Bernie, Missouri and Susan Hoeltzle of Wappapello, Missouri; also by other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death other than by her parents, by one brother, Ronald Petry.

Graveside Memorial Service will be conducted on Monday, June 2, 2014 in Woodlawn Cemetery in Campbell, Missouri starting at 10:00 A.M. 

Interment will follow. Rainey-Mathis Funeral Home in Charge of arrangements.

Christopher Berry

Chris Berry, son of Jeff and Donna Berry of Wappapello, Missouri and Robin King Berry and Paul Suver of Dexter was born on March 31, 1978 in Dexter, Missouri and departed this life on May 26, 2014 at the Barnes-Jewish Hospital in St. Louis, Missouri at the age of 36 years.

Chris was a full time student at Southeast Missouri University in Cape Girardeau, Missouri. Chris loved music and hanging out with family and friends.  He was a former resident of Dexter currently living in Cape.

Besides his father and step-mother Jeff and Donna Berry; mother, Robyn Berry and her fiancé Paul Suver, other survivors include one sister, Chelsey Berry of Dexter; and his companion Brandy “Pinkie” Thompson of Cape Girardeau, Missouri. 

He was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, Therman and Norma King; paternal grandparents, Jeff and Maxine Berry; and by one aunt, Tanya King.

Friends may call at the Rainey-Mathis Funeral Home in Dexter on Thursday, May 29, 2014 from 5:00 P.M. to 9:00 P.M. 

Funeral services will be conducted in the Rainey-Mathis Funeral Chapel on Friday, May 30, 2014 at 11:00 A.M.  Interment will follow in the Oak Ridge Cemetery in Bloomfield, Missouri.

The family requests that memorials be made to the American Heart Association, Greater Midwest Affiliate, Memorials and Tributes Lockbox, 3816 Paysphere Circle, Chicago, Illinois 60674.

Dorthy McClard

Dorthy McClard, daughter of the late Cecil Waggoner and Edith Perry Waggoner, was born on July 10, 1933 in Pyle Town and departed this life at Crowley Ridge Care Center in Dexter on May 27, 2014 at the age of 80.

Mrs. McClard was a member of the Bridge Church of Christ in Pyle Town, had worked at Trammell Insurance as a secretary for forty-nine years and was a resident of Dexter.  She was instrumental in the founding of the Stoddard County A.R.C., a member of WPFA and a former board member for the Poplar Bluff Regional Center.

On August 27, 1951, she was united in marriage to Curtis Alvin McClard, Sr. at Pyle Town.  Mr. McClard preceded her in death on April 8, 1987.

She is survived by three sons, Curtis A. (Vickie) McClard, Jr. of Dexter, Donald R. (Patricia) McClard of  Fort Worth, Texas and Robert W. (Linda) McClard of Hamilton, Ohio; by two daughters, Carla McClard of Dexter and Gayle (Dennis) Carey of New Haven, Missouri; by one brother, Gordon Waggoner of Bloomfield; by three sisters, Reva Raymo of Dexter, Arlene Eubanks of Dexter and Marjorie Waggoner of Poplar Bluff; by eleven grandchildren, eleven great-grandchildren and six great-great-grandchildren.

In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by one daughter, Peggy McClard; by three brothers, Eldon Waggoner, Hiland Waggoner and Merlin Waggoner; and by one sister, Joyce Eskew.

Friends may call at the Rainey-Mathis Funeral Home in Dexter on Friday, May 30, 2014 from 5:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. 

Funeral services will be conducted at the Bridge Church of Christ in Pyle Town on Saturday, May 31, 2014 at 10:00 A.M. with Bernie Crum officiating. 

Interment will follow in the Caroline Dowdy Cemetery in Dexter.

James Oliver Boan

James Oliver Boan, son of the late James Rosco and Sarah Jane Parsons Boan, was born September 1, 1921 in Decatur, Missouri and passed away at Sunrise Senior Living in Chesterfield, Missouri on May 23, 2014, at the age of 92 years.

Mr. Boan, a former resident of Bloomfield, was owner and publisher of The Vindicator weekly newspaper. He was a journalist and authored two published books. He was a proud supporter of the Stars and Stripes Museum in Bloomfield and was a veteran of WWII, serving in the U. S. Marine Corp. He was a member of the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Dexter and the Knight of Columbus.

On August 28, 1950, he was married to Clara Marie Wempe in Lincoln, Nebraska. She preceded him in death on June 1, 2012.

Survivors include five children; two sons, James Scott Boan of Crown Point, Indiana, John Boan of Mitchellville, IA; three daughters, Rebecca Hoogheem (Tom) of Chesterfield, MO, Barbara Metcoff (Jerry) of Roxbury, CT, and Elizabeth Lilly (Bob) of Dexter, MO. Also surviving are 11 grandchildren; Brandi, Megan, Alyssa, Katie, Kristen, Sarah, Mark, Laura, Bobby, Josh and Matt; five great grandchildren; several nieces and nephews; three brothers, Joseph and Buell both of Nebraska and Gary Boan of Kansas. In addition to his parents and his wife he was preceded in death by two brothers, Johnny and Kenneth Boan.

Friends may visit on Friday, May 30, 2014, after 10:00 am at the Chiles-Cooper Funeral Home in Bloomfield, Missouri.

Funeral services will be held on Friday, May 30, 2014, at 11:00 am at the Chiles-Cooper Funeral Home in Bloomfield, Missouri with Rev. David Dohogne of Dexter, Missouri officiating.

Burial will follow at the Missouri Veteran's Cemetery in Bloomfield, Missouri with Chiles-Cooper Funeral Home of Bloomfield in charge of arrangements.

Memorials may be made to the Stars and Stripes Museum, P O Box 1861, Bloomfield, Missouri 63825.

Grace Melton
Grace Melton, daughter of the late Loyd and Elsie Brooks Hornbuckle, was born in Manila, Arkansas on July 14,1931, and passed away at the St. Francis Medical Center in Cape Girardeau, Missouri on May 21, 2014, at the age of 82 years, 10 months and 7 days.

She had lived in Southeast Missouri most of her life and moved to Dexter in 1978. She had been a business owner most of her life.

Surviving are two daughters, Lonia Slinkard of Bloomfield, Missouri; Victoria Thomas, of Cape Girardeau, Missouri; five grandchildren; two great grandchildren; two step-sons, Daniel Robinson of Dexter, Missouri, Robbie Robinson of Jonesboro, Arkansas; one brother, Pete Hornbuckle of Grassey, Missouri.

Other relatives and friends also survive. She was preceded in death by one grandson, Michael Slinkard, one step-son, Harold Frank Robinson II, and six brothers and sisters.

Graveside funeral services will be held on Saturday, May 24, 2014 at 2:00 p.m. at Dunklin County Memorial Gardens Cemetery in Kennett, Missouri.

Interment will follow with Watkins & Sons Funeral Service of Dexter in charge of arrangements.
