Garry Leon Sides
Garry Leon Sides, son of Wanda Hayes Sides Hill and the late Bobby Kent Sides, was born in Oceanside, California on August 31, 1952, and passed away at the Southeast Health Center of Stoddard County in Dexter, Missouri on February 9, 2014, at the age of 61 years, 5 months and 9 days.

He had lived in the Essex and Dexter areas all of his life. He had worked for Mayberry Seed Company as a warehouse manager. Garry was a very active member of the Harvest Assembly of God Church in Essex. He served his church as a member of the Praise and Worship Team and as a past deacon. He enjoyed playing music.

On September 7, 1973, he was married to Sharon K. Meadows in Essex, Missouri.

Surviving are his wife, Sharon Sides of Essex; his mother, Wanda Sides Hill of Dexter, Missouri, two daughters and son in laws; Jamie Renee & Chris Higgins and Rebecca Leigh & Nathan Rice all of Essex, Missouri; three grandchildren, Elijah and Abigail Higgins of Essex and Joy Rice of Essex; one brother, Dean Sides of Newport Arkansas; and one sister, Sharon Dial of Demopolis, Alabama.

He was preceded in death by his father, Bobby K Sides, one brother, LeLand Sides as well as two sisters Pamela Sides and Anita Sides. Other relatives and friends also survive.

Visitations will be held on Wednesday, February 12, 2014, after 12:00 p.m. at the Watkins & Sons Funeral Home in Dexter, Missouri.

Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, February 12, 2014, at 1:30 p.m. at the Watkins & Sons Chapel in Dexter with the Rev. Jason Safirt of Dexter officiating and Marlin Durham of Bernie assisting.

Interment will be in the Triplett Cemetery near Dexter, Missouri with Watkins & Sons Funeral Service of Dexter in charge of arrangements.

Gilbert Thompson

Gilbert Thompson, son of the late George Gilbert Thompson and Gearlden Bland Thompson was born on August 13, 1938 in Corning, Arkansas and departed this life at his residence in Dexter, Missouri on February 9, 2014 at the age of 75 years.

Mr. Thompson had worked as a self-employed truck driver and carpenter.  After retiring as an over-the-road truck driver, he started driving a school bus for Dexter City Schools.  He loved driving the school bus, kids, working with his hands and helping those in need.  He was of the Baptist Faith and a resident of Dexter.   

On July 30, 1960 he was united in marriage to Doris Harkness.  Mrs. Thompson survives of the home in Dexter.

Besides his wife, other survivors include four daughters, Peggy Parsley and husband Edward of Puxico, Missouri, Cathy Hawthorne and husband Dave of Puxico, Missouri, Debbie Rodgers and husband J.A. of Dexter, Missouri, Connie Wilson and husband Alan of Glenville, Pennsylvania;  by three brothers, Jerry Thompson of Dexter, William Thompson of Rockford, Illinois, and Duke Thompson of Bradford, Arkansas; nine grandchildren, Chad Hawthorne, Stephen Thompson, Kathy Faries, Katie Parsley, Jackie Riggins, Carrie Chappell, Justin Wilson, Cameron Wilson, and Kendall Tilley;  thirteen great-grandchildren; also by other relatives and many friends.

Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by one sister, Claudetta Fuller.

Friends may call at the Rainey-Mathis Funeral Home in Dexter from 6:00 until 8:00 P.M. Wednesday February 12, 2014. 

Funeral services will be conducted on Thursday February 13, 2014 at 11:00 A.M. in the Rainey-Mathis Funeral Chapel in Dexter with Rev. Lonny Mittag and Rev. Buck Cruse officiating. 

Interment will follow in the Chalk Bluff Cemetery in Dexter.

Jerry Ray Baker, son of the late Roland Theodore and Helen Marie Winnegear Baker, was born in Nimmons, Arkansas on February 13, 1949, and passed away at his home near Dexter, Missouri on February 7, 2014, at the age of 64 years, 11 months and 22 days.

He had lived in Bernie and Malden most of his life before moving to Dexter six years ago. He had worked in maintenance at Federal Mogul in Malden.

On October 16, 1976, he was married to Ginger Cowan in Risco, Missouri.

Surviving are his wife, Ginger Baker of Dexter; two sons, Tony Ray Baker of West Plains, Missouri, Jason Allen Baker of Dexter; one daughter, Tracy DeAnn Baker-Knox of Blue Springs, Missouri; twelve grandchildren; two great grandchildren; three brothers, LaVaughn and Gary Baker both of Dexter, Wayne Baker of Bernie; two sisters, JoAnne Ray of Cape Girardeau and Barb Watkins of Dexter. Other relatives and friends also survive. He was preceded in death by two brothers and three sisters.

Visitations will be held on Monday, February 10, 2014, from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the Watkins & Sons Funeral Home in Dexter, Missouri.

Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, February 11, 2014, at 11:00 a.m. at the Watkins & Sons Chapel in Dexter.

Interment will be in the Bernie Cemetery in Bernie, Missouri with Watkins & Sons Funeral Service of Dexter in charge of arrangements.

Perry Morgan, son of the late Thomas and Phyllis Brennaman Morgan, was born in Linton, Indiana on March 27, 1941, and passed away at his home in Dexter, Missouri on February 6, 2014, at the age of 72 years.

He had lived in Dexter, Missouri for the last 12 years. He had lived in Bloomington, Indiana before moving to Dexter. He enjoyed fishing, camping, and traveling.  He had worked at the Stoddard County Gospel Mission before his retirement.

On May 27, 2000, he was married to Sherry Dees Morgan in Bloomington, Indiana. She survives in the home.

Surviving are, his wife, Sherry Morgan of Dexter, Missouri; two sons, Perry T. Morgan and Robert Morgan both of Bloomington, Indiana; two stepsons, Corey and Bradley Dees of Dexter, Missouri; one brother, Tony Morgan of Martinsville, Indiana; one sister, Florence (Pinky) Bovenchen of Bloomfield, Indiana; eight grandchildren, Jordan, Brooklyn, and Alex Morgan, all of Bloomington, Indiana, Taylor and Logan Dees of Kilua, Hawaii, Alicia Dees of Dexter, Missouri, and Clair and Wyatt Comfort of Dexter, Missouri.  Other relatives and friends also survive.

Memorial Services will be held on Monday, February 10, 2014, at 5:00 p.m. at the Watkins & Sons Funeral Home in Dexter, Missouri with Pastor Josh Carpenter of Dexter, Missouri officiating.  Watkins & Sons Funeral Service of Dexter in charge of arrangements.

Marjorie McCarver
Marjorie McCarver, daughter of the late Othor and Lora Hildebrand Sandefur, was born in Clarkton, Missouri on May 21, 1919, and passed away at the Cypress Point Nursing Center in Dexter, Missouri on February 7, 2014, at the age of 94 years.

She had lived in Dexter, Missouri since 1948. She had owned and operated her own beauty parlor in Dexter for many years and had been a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Dexter since 1948.

On October 9, 1939, she was married to Robert Wayne "Bob" McCarver in Malden, Missouri. He preceded her in death on March 30, 2007.

Surviving are one daughter and husband, Judy & Hoy Heise of Brookfield, Connecticut,two grandsons and wives; Christopher Evan & Sheri Heise of California, Robert Hoy & Cary Heise of North Carolina; two great grandchildren; Ashlin and Carver Heise. Other relatives and friends also survive.

Friends may visit on Monday, February 10, 2014, after 12:00 p.m. at the Watkins & Sons Funeral Home in Dexter, Missouri.
