Helen Gaines

Helen Gaines

Helen Gaines, daughter of the late Frank B. Carney and Molly Hisaw Carney, was born on March 19, 1919 in Dexter and passed away on October 27, 2013 at Cypress Point Skilled Nursing in Dexter at the age of 94 years.

Mrs. Gaines was a member of the First Baptist Church in Dexter and a resident of Dexter.  After twenty-two years, she retired from the Bloomfield Nursing Center where she had worked as a medical technician.  After retirement, she volunteered as an ombudsman at Beverly Health Center in Dexter. 

On May 29, 1937, she was united in marriage to Woodrow E. Gaines.  Mr. Gaines preceded her in death in May of 1982.

She is survived by one sister, Carma Dean May of Jonesboro, Arkansas; by two grandchildren, Kelli Channell and her husband Chris of Dexter and Ashleigh Briscoe and her special friend Bill Nations of Tulsa, Oklahoma; by four great-grandchildren, Drake Channell, Jaycob and Jordan Briscoe and Alexis Accord; and by many nieces and nephews.

Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by one son, Scott Gaines; by one daughter, Linda Lou Gaines; by four brothers, Roy Carney, James Carney, Ray Carney and Brady Carney; and by four sisters, Edna Sills, LaVeda Hopkins, Margaret Matthews and Agnes Sills.

Friends may call at the Rainey-Mathis Funeral Home in Dexter on Wednesday, October 30, 2013 from 5:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M.

Funeral services will be conducted in the Rainey-Mathis Funeral Chapel on Thursday, October 31, 2013 at 10:00 A.M. with Pastor John Carney officiating. 

Interment will follow in the Hagy Cemetery.

Dustin Lee McGhee

Dustin Lee McGhee, son of Brenda Kay Robinson and the late Elvis James McGhee, was born on January 9, 1988 in Sikeston and passed away on October 24, 2013 at Crowley Ridge Care Center in Dexter at the age of 25 years.

Dustin never complained and loved Cardinals baseball, game shows and the television show, Law and Order.  He was a client of ARC and a resident of Dexter.

In addition to his mother, he is survived by his uncle and aunt, Alan and Jeanie Robinson of Dexter; by his cousin, Dawn Smathers, her husband Daniel and their two children, Geanna and Brent Smathers; and by his maternal grandparents, F. L. and Helen Robinson of Dexter.

Besides his father, he was preceded in death by one cousin, Brent Robinson.

Friends may call at the Rainey-Mathis Funeral Home in Dexter on Saturday, October 26, 2013 from 9:00 A.M. to 11:00 A.M. 

Funeral services will be conducted in the Rainey-Mathis Funeral Chapel on Saturday, October 26, 2013 at 11:00 A.M. with Rev. Lonny Mittag officiating. 

Interment will follow in the Chalk Bluff Cemetery.

Lorene White

Lorene White, daughter of the late Sherman Melvin Hartle and Bertha Ellen Phelps Hartle, was born in Advance, Missouri on April 20, 1913 and departed this life in the General Baptist Nursing Home in Campbell, Missouri at the age of 100.

Mrs. White was a retired cook, having worked for many years in the Bernie School System.  She was a member of the Word of Faith Family Church, Bernie.

She was united in marriage to John J. White in Bernie, Missouri on May 15, 1936.  Mr. White preceded his wife in death on May 11, 1991.

Survivors include one son, James David White and wife Sue of Bernie, Missouri; by three grandchildren, Cordie White and wife Rachel of Bernie, Missouri, Heather Wallace and husband Eric of Kennett, Missouri and Tina West and husband James of Judsonia, Arkansas; by five great-grandchildren and by 5 great-great-grandchildren; also by other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death other than by her parents and her husband, by one brother, Eugene Hartle and one sister Ruby Stearns.

Friends may call at Rainey-Mathis Funeral Home in Bernie, Missouri on Monday, October 28, 2013 from 5:00 P.M. until 8:00 P.M.  

Funeral services will be conducted in the Rainey-Mathis Funeral Home in Bernie on Tuesday morning, October 29, 2013 at 11:00 A.M. with Pastor Dale Hartle officiating. 

Interment will follow in the Bernie Cemetery.  Rainey-Mathis Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.

Gary allen Tandski

Gary Allen Tandski, son of the late Peter Tandski and Mabel Gillis Ferguson was born on July 28, 1938 in Pontiac, Michigan and passed away peacefully in his sleep on October 20, 2013 surrounded by family and friends at the age of 75.

Gary served in the United States Navy, following his service he was the General Manager of Levitz Furniture Store as well as Marlo Furniture in Rockville, Maryland.  He was a member of the Dexter Elks, Hidden Trails Country Club as well as the Dexter Lions Club.  He was a proud father, an avid golfer, fisherman, story-teller and self-proclaimed “ladies man”.  He will be remembered as a man who was involved in the community, he loved to play craps, and who always said, “To have friends, you have to be a good friend”.

He is survived by two sons, Richard Tandski and wife Stacie of Harpers Ferry, West Virginia and Michael Tandski and wife Rebeca of Fairfax, Virginia; by one daughter, Savanna Tandski of Annapolis, Maryland; by one brother, Derill Ferguson Jr. of Hartville, Ohio; by three sisters, Brinda Wallis, LaVerne Tinker and LaVeda Banken all of Dexter; by four grandchildren, Haley Tandski, Austin Tandski, Brooklyne Tandski and Madison Tandski and his canine companion, Jenna.

Friends may call at the Rainey-Mathis Funeral Home on Monday, October 28, 2013 from 1:00 P.M. until 2:30 P.M. 

Funeral services will then be conducted on Monday, October 28, 2013 in the Rainey-Mathis Funeral chapel at 2:30 P.M. 

Interment will follow in the Missouri State Veterans Cemetery in Bloomfield.

In lieu of flowers the family requests that all memorials be made to the 18 Fore Life c/o Scott Kruse, 705 Laurie Circle, Dexter, Missouri 63841.

Kenneth Edward Richter
Kenneth Edward Richter, son of the late Edward and Alice Zorn Richter, was born in Steelville, Missouri on March 12, 1927, and passed away at Christian Health & Rehab Center in Lebanon, Missouri on October 21, 2013, at the age of 86 years, 7 months and 9 days.
He had lived in Steelville and Poplar Bluff before moving to Lebanon 13 years ago. He had worked at Brown Shoe Company and was a member of the Presbyterian Church.
On February 17, 1989, he was married to Edna Stinnett in Steelville, Missouri. She preceded him in death on February 5, 2000.
Surviving are two daughters, Karen Swartz of Pleasant Hope, Michigan, Sharron Brown of Ellsinore, Missouri; three sons, Leon Gregory of West Plains, Missouri, Dona nd Ron Gregory both of Lebanon, Missouri; 15 grandchildren; 33 great grandchildren; one great great grandchild; and one brother, Curtis Richter. Other family and friends also survive.
There are no services scheduled at this time.
Interment will follow in the Memorial Park Cemetery in Malden, Missouri with Watkins & Sons Funeral Service of Dexter in charge of arrangements.
