Ira Mae Abbot

Ira Mae Abbott, daughter of the late James O. Carter and Dora Jane Ketcherside Abbott, was born on April 10, 1924, in Ellsinore, Missouri, and departed this life at Cypress Point Skilled Nursing in Dexter, Missouri, on August 7, 2012, at the age of 88.

Mrs. Abbott was a member of the Bible Tabernacle in Bloomfield, Missouri. She had worked as an assembly line worker at Pontiac Motors in Michigan, was the owner of an ice cream company and a resident of Dexter.

She was united in marriage to Sylvester Mowery on April 20, 1940, in Bloomfield, Missouri. He preceded her in death on November 26, 1987. She was married to Chester Abbott on August 19, 1989, at Bloomfield, Missouri. He preceded her in death on March 13, 2000.

Survivors include two daughters, Norma Jean Mowery of Waterford, Michigan, and Diana Kay VanKleek of Dexter, Missouri; two sons, Jerry DeWayne Mowery of Clarkston, Michigan, and Chester Abbott, Jr. of Bloomfield, Missouri; also by nine grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren and two great great-grandchildren.

Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by two brothers, Henry Carter and Irvin Clay Carter; one sister, Myrtle McGowen; one granddaughter, Diana Marie Deprow; three great-grandchildren, Kevin Ross Dowdy, Jr., Madison Marie Edens and Breanna Paige Deprow.

Friends may call at the Rainey-Mathis Funeral Home in Dexter from 11:00 A.M. until 1:00 P.M., Saturday, August 11, 2012. Funeral services will be conducted on Saturday, August 11, 2012, at 1:00 P.M. at the Rainey-Mathis Funeral Chapel in Dexter with the Rev. Michael Abbott officiating. Interment will follow at the Bernie Cemetery in Bernie, Missouri.
