Carol Ann Crowe

Carol Ann Crowe, daughter of the late Cecil and Mildred E. Patterson Crowe,was born in Idalia, Missouri on October 1, 1940, and passed away at the St. John's Mercy Villa Nursing Center in Springfield on June 15, 2012, at the age of 71.


She had lived in Dexter area most of her life and has resided the past few years in Springfield.


Surviving are two brothers and spouses, Tom and Nadine Crowe of Dexter, and Bobby L. and Glenda Crowe of Springfield; several nieces and, nephews. Other relatives and friends also survive.


She was preceded in death by one brother, Eugene Crowe.


Graveside services will be held at 10 a.m., Tuesday, June 19, 2012, at the Hagy Cemetery in Dexter, with the Rev. Don Kennedy of Dexter officiating.


Interment will be in the Hagy Cemetery in Dexter, Missouri with Watkins and Sons Funeral Service of Dexter in charge of arrangements.

Wilma Shipman Baldwin

Wilma Shipman Baldwin, daughter of the late Henry and Dora Pry Shipman, was born in  Arkansas on August 3, 1933, and passed away at the Bertrand Nursing Home in Bertrand, Missouri on June 16, 2012, at the age of 78.


Mrs. Baldwin had lived in this area most of her life.She was married to Don Baldwin and he preceded her in death.


Surviving are one daughter, Loretta Morgan of Dexter; two

brothers, Henry Shipman of Lawton, Oklahoma and Larry Shipman of Hoopenston,Illinois; three sisters, Betty Mayberry of Westville, Illinois, Verline Griffin of Quitman, Texas, and Mary Atkinson of Clarkrange, Tennessee; two grandsons, Timmy Morgan and Justin Morgan of Poplar Bluff, and

many nieces and nephews whom she loved dearly.  Other family and friends also survive.


She was preceded in death by her parents and three brothers.


Visitation will be held after 10 a.m., Monday, June 18, 2012, at the Watkins and Sons Funeral Home in Dexter. Graveside services will be held at12 p.m., Monday, June 18, 2012, at the

Dexter Cemetery in Dexter, with Chaplain Elijiah Allen of

Sikeston, officiating.


Interment will be in the Dexter Cemetery in Dexter, with Watkins and Sons Funeral Service of Dexter in charge of arrangements.

Bessie Mae Wilson

Bessie Mae Wilson, daughter of the late James William Lane and Bessie King Lane was born on February 1, 1922 in Harrisburg, Arkansas, and died on June 13, 2012 at the Cypress Point Skilled Nursing Facility in Dexter, Missouri at the age of 90.

Mrs. Wilson was a member of the Liberty Hill General Baptist Church in Aid.  She was a homemaker who loved taking care of her children. 

On January 11, 1941 she was united in marriage to Harold Conny Wilson in Bloomfield.  Mr. Wilson preceded her in death on January 19, 1976.

Survivors include one son, Leonard Harold Wilson of Bloomfield; by two daughters, Marilyn “Sue” Smith of Doniphan and Connie Jo Walker of Bloomfield; by six grandchildren, Michael Smith and Stephen Smith both of Doniphan, Shannon Smith of Nixa, Missouri, Jennifer Bess of Dexter, Jason Wilson of Eolia, and Jessie Wilson of Puxico and by 16 great-grandchildren.

Besides her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by seven brothers, J.B. Lane, Pledge Lane, Lynn Lane, Harry Lane, E.M. “Blue” Lane, William Lane and Bert Lane and by four sisters, Georgia Ray Robinson, Louise Blunt, Molly Early and Mildred Lane.

Visitation will be held from 12:30 until 2 p.m., Friday, June 15, at the Rainey-Mathis Funeral Chapel in Dexter.  Funeral services then be hld at 2 p.m., Friday, June 15, 2012 in the Rainey-Mathis Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Shannon W. Smith officiating.  Interment will follow in the Dexter Cemetery.

Georgia Lucille Whittenberg

  Georgia Lucille Whittenberg, daughter of the late Stephen Whittenberg and Edith Skaggs Whittenberg, was born on November 1, 1919, in Bertrand, Missouri and departed this life Tuesday, June 12, 2012 in the Mark Twain Caring Center in Poplar Bluff at the age of 92.

     Miss Whittenberg had worked as a seamstress for Elder Manufacturing Company of Dexter and was of the General Baptist faith.  She was a resident of Poplar Bluff, formerly of Dexter.

     She is survived by one niece, Lucy Wooldridge Wheeler of Dexter; by one great-nephew, Jonathan Scott Wheeler and wife Jan of Poplar Bluff; and by two great-great nephews, Brandon Wheeler and Joshua Wheeler, both of Poplar Bluff.

     Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by two sisters, Rhoda Wooldridge and Gertrude Roberta “Lady” Whittenberg.

     Friends may call at the Rainey-Mathis Funeral Home in Dexter on Thursday, June 14, 2012 from 12:30 p.m. until 2 p.m. Funeral services will then be conducted at 2 p.m., in the Rainey-Mathis Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Tim Russell officiating.  Interment will follow in the Armer Cemetery in rural Bertrand.

Karen Lynn Stephens

Karen Lynn Stephens, 50, of Advance, Missouri, died June 12, 2012, at her home. She was born March 23, 1962, in Chaffee,  the daughter of Edsel and Marie Tally Cooper.

Karen owned and operated Annie-Em's in downtown Cape Girardeau. She had been a teacher and principal for 18 years with the Bell City School District. She graduated from Southeast Missouri State University with a Specialist Degree in Education. She was a member of the First Baptist Church in Dexter.

Karen and Clint Stephens were united in marriage on July 16, 1983, in Bell City, and he survives.

Other survivors include her parents, Edsel and Marie Cooper of Advance; two daughters, Emilie Stephens and Annie Stephens, both of Advance; and two brothers, Alan Cooper and Michael Cooper, both of Bloomfield.

Visitation will be held on Thursday, June 14, 2012, from 3 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Morgan Funeral Home Chapel in Advance.

Funeral services will be held on Friday, June 15, 2012, at 11 a.m. in the Morgan Funeral Home Chapel.

Interment will follow at Pleasant Grove Cemetery near Bell City.

The family requests memorial donations be made to the Stoddard County Children's Home or the Cape Girardeau Humane Society.
