Louise Hughes

Louise Hughes, daughter of the late Ollie C. Pruitt and Leila Kamplain Pruitt was born on June 4, 1922 in Essex, Missouri and died on March 12, 2012 at theTerrebonne General Medical Center in Houma, Louisiana at the age of 89.

Mrs. Hughes was a retired manager at the Holiday Inn.  She was a former resident of Dexter, currently living in Houma, Louisiana.

She was united in marriage to John Henry Hughes Jr. on July 5, 1939 at Piggott, Arkansas.  Mr. Hughes preceded her in death on June 30, 1994.

She is survived by two daughters and sons-in-law, Linda L. and husband Gordon Klippenstein of Hamilton, Montana and Connie S. and husband Gail Feltman of Houma, Louisiana; by one daughter-in-law, Victoria Hughes; by ten grandchildren; by twenty-one great grandchildren and by eight great- great grandchildren.

Besides her husband and parents she was preceded in death by one son, John Pruitt Hughes and by one sister, Barbara Johnson.

Friends may call at the Rainey-Mathis Funeral Home in Dexter from 12 non until 2 p.m.,  Saturday, March 17, 2012. Funeral services will then be conducte at 2 p.m., in the Rainey-Mathis Funeral Chapel with Eric Dabbs officiating.  Interment will follow in the Dexter Cemetery.

Rose Marie Nichols

Rose Marie Nichols, daughter of the late Nathaniel and Ida Wilson Lewis, was  born in Parma, Missouri, on March 17, 1931, and passed away at the St.  Francis Medical Center in Cape Girardeau, Missouri on March 14, 2012, at the  age of 80 years, 11 months and 26 days.

Mrs. Nichols had lived in Parma all of her life. She worked as a secretary at the Parma Public Schools and was a member of the General Baptist Church in Parma.

On December 3, 1949, she was married to Floyd Nichols in Piggott, Ark.  He preceded her in death on December 24, 2009.

Surviving are one daughter and spouse, Lisa and Bill Hilderbrand of Malden, and two sons and spouse, Tony Nichols of Parma, Mike and Barbra Cowan Nichols of Malden; by two grandchildren; four great-grandchildren. Other family and friends also survive.

She was preceded  in death by two brothers, Carlton and Bob Lewis.

Visitation will be held at 1 p.m., Friday, March 16, 2012, at the Watkins and Sons Funeral Home in Parma. Funeral services will follow at 2 p.m., in the Watkins and Sons Chapel in  Parma. Interment will be in Memorial Park Cemetery in Malden  with Watkins and Sons Funeral Service of Parma in charge of arrangements.

Calvin Noel “Butch” Murphy

Calvin Noel “Butch” Murphy, son of the late George Redden Murphy and Della Ann Boone Murphy, was born June 23, 1942 in Bernie, Missouri and departed this life on March 11, 2012, at the age of 69.

Mr. Murphy had been the owner and operator of Otasco in Bernie for 20 years, and was the assistant supervisor for Liberty Township prior to his retirement. He was a resident of Bernie.

He was united in marriage to Carolyn Lorine Moore in Dexter on July 6, 1961. Mrs. Murphy survives of the home in Bernie.

Other survivors include one son, Noel Redden Murphy of Crestview, Fla.; by one daughter Lori Annette Friese of Jackson; by two brothers, Don Murphy of Berwyn, Ill., and Bob Murphy of Jefferson City; by four sisters, Pauline Kifer and Wanda Hughes, both of Bernie, Joyce Dunn of St. Charles, and Judy Thrower of Cape Girardeau; by six grandchildren; and both other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by one daughter, Velva Sharlene Murphy Stidham; by one grandson, Jason Stidham; by one brother, Melvin George “Shorty” Murphy; and by one sister, Evanda Gay Ramsey.

Friends may call from 5 until 8 p.m., Friday, March 16 at the Rainey-Mathis Funeral Home in Bernie. Funeral services will be conducted at 10:30 a.m., Saturday, March 17 at the Rainey-Mathis Funeral Home in Bernie with the Rev. Ivan Mekan officiated. Internment will follow in the Bernie Cemetery.

Memorials may be made to the Jason Stidham Memorial Scholarship Fund at Dexter High School.

Walter Junior Tilley

Walter Junior Tilley, son of the late Walter and Lydia Lucresia Elledge Tilley, was born on August 6, 1940, in Bloomfield, Missouri and passed away at his home in Bolivar, Missouri on March 13, 2012, at the age of 71 years, 7 months and 7 days. 

 Mr. Tilley had lived Bloomfield, Missouri most of his life. He had worked as a salesman for Haque Quality Water Conditioning. He attended the First General Baptist Church in Bloomfield, was a member of the Bloomfield Masonic Lodge #153 and the Bloomfield American Legion. He was a veteran of the U. S. Air Force. 

On June 26, 1966, he was married to Nancy Gaines in Idalia, Missouri. Surviving are his wife, Nancy Tilley of Bolivar; two sons and spouses, Michael and Hui-Chan Tilley of Fayette, and David and Kim Tilley of Bolivar; four grandchildren, Jaren, Jaeli, Lydia, and Sophia Tilley. Other relatives and many friends also survive. 

Friends may visit at 12 p.m. on Sunday March 18, 2012, at the Chiles-Cooper Funeral Home in Bloomfield, Missouri. Memorial services will be held at 2 p.m. on Sunday, March 18, 2012, at the Chiles-Cooper Funeral Home in Bloomfield, Missouri with Rev. Kevin Eskew of Bloomfield, officiating.

Julia Ruth Morse

Julia Ruth Morse, daughter of the late John and Emma Schwebel Day, was born on February 20, 1916, in Horine, Missouri and passed away at her home near Essex, Missouri on March 14, 2012, at the age of 96 years and 23 days.

Mrs. Morse had lived St. Louis and Jefferson County before moving to Southeast Missouri 71 years ago. She was a member of the Beech Grove General Baptist Church. She had worked at Maupin’s Variety Store for many years.

She was married to Curtis A. Wilson on March 8, 1941, in Imperial. He preceded her in death. On September 5, 1948, she was married to Leonard Earl Morse in Fisk. He preceded her in death on July 7, 1984.

Surviving are three sons and spouses, Curtis A., Jr. and Dianne Wilson of Columbia, South Carolina, Herman and Sharon Morse of Dexter, David Morse of Essex; by five grandchildren, Dee Ann Bales of Utah, Nancy D’Lynn Hatcher of South Carolina, Curtis Alan Wilson of Georgia, Leonard Ethan Morse of Dexter, Erin Meilin Zumdahl of Iowa; and by 15 great-grandchildren, Ashley Wiederhold, Robert Wiederhold, Justin Spisak, Austin Spisak, Noah Spisak, Erin Bales, Mason Hatcher, Katherine Hatcher, AnnDee Hatcher, Drew Wilson, Lorelai Wilson, Hayden Morse, Kyle Holladay, Maya Zumdahl and Piper Zumdahl. Nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends also survive.

She was preceded in death by three brothers in infancy, as well as a brother, Paul Day, and three sisters, Maybelle Huskey, Viola Ebling, and Lucy Weilandich. 

Friends may call from 4 until 7 p.m., Thursday, March 15, 2012, at the Chiles-Cooper Funeral Home in Bloomfield. 

Funeral services will be at 11 a.m., Friday, March 16, 2012, in the Chiles-Cooper Funeral Home in Bloomfield, Missouri with the Rev. Don Lafferty of Bloomfield, Missouri officiating.

Interment will be in the Walker Cemetery near Bloomfield, Missouri with Chiles-Cooper Funeral Home in Bloomfield, Missouri in charge of arrangements.
