100-Mile Yard Sale Kicks Off This Week; Drivers Urged To Use Caution

Visitors and residents will be out in full force along Route 25 Memorial Day weekend in search of bargains at the 100-Mile Yard Sale, but MoDOT wants you to remember the greatest savings of the event could be a life.

“It’s a fun weekend that people look forward to each year,” says Traffic Engineer Craig Compas, “but we want people to remember that there’s more traffic and more congestion along Route 25 this weekend than any other and drivers need to keep that in mind.”

MoDOT will do its part to bring the safety message to the forefront.  Message boards will be in place along the route to alert drivers of the unusual traffic patterns and promote safe driving.

“We really want drivers to be alert—to be aware of their surroundings, to be aware of sudden stops and to look for pedestrian traffic,” Compas says.  “Additionally, there is an increase in traffic, including large truck traffic, between the City of Jackson and the Route AB in Cape Girardeau County due to the Diverging Diamond Interchange construction. While we want everyone to enjoy themselves, we ask that people also be as safe as possible.”

A Proclamation Honoring The Victims Of The Tragedy In Uvalde, Texas

PRESIDENTIAL ACTIONS

As a mark of respect for the victims of the senseless acts of violence perpetrated on May 24, 2022, by a gunman at Robb Elementary School in Uvalde, Texas, by the authority vested in me as President of the United States by the Constitution and the laws of the United States of America, I hereby order that the flag of the United States shall be flown at half-staff at the White House and upon all public buildings and grounds, at all military posts and naval stations, and on all naval vessels of the Federal Government in the District of Columbia and throughout the United States and its Territories and possessions until sunset, May 28, 2022. I also direct that the flag shall be flown at half-staff for the same length of time at all United States embassies, legations, consular offices, and other facilities abroad, including all military facilities and naval vessels and stations.

A SILVER Advisory was issued for a missing man believed to be endangered.

Melvin Malone, 71, left Tuesday morning, May 17 to go to his son’s house on Russell Street in Kennett, but he never arrived.

Malone was described as 5-feet, 6-inches tall and 148 pounds with black hair and brown eyes. He was wearing a gray sweater and gray pants.

Troopers report he has dementia and Alzheimer’s.

They believe he was driving a 2013 Chrysler 200 with Missouri plates VC6U3K.

The car was last seen in the 500 block of Slicer Street in Kennett.

According to the highway patrol, Malone has been known to travel long distances before and unaware of where he is when he arrives.

Anyone with information is asked to call 911 immediately or the Kennett Police Department at 573-888-4622.

Route AA in Stoddard County will be reduced to one lane as Missouri Department of Transportation crews perform bridge maintenance.   

This section of roadway is located from Route AC to Depot Road near Bloomfield, Missouri.  

Weather permitting, work will take place Monday, May 16 and Tuesday, May 17 from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m.  

The work zone will be marked with signs. Motorists are urged to use extreme caution while traveling near the area.
