Students Safe at Poplar Bluff Middle School Thanks to Quick Actions by Other Students
On Tuesday, October 30th, 2018, the Poplar Bluff Police Department learned of a 13 year old Poplar Bluff Junior High School student, found to be in possession of a firearm. The firearm was seized by the Poplar Bluff Junior High School staff, along with the School Resource Officer, after information was provided as to its presence, by other students.

According to Superintendent Dr. Scott Dill, the situation was resolved quickly because other students saw something and chose to report it to administration.

Superintendent Dill said a call was made to parents in the district to alert them.

Poplar Bluff Police Department Investigators have interviewed the student and he has since been taken into custody. During the interview, the student disclosed that he only intended to use the firearm to scare other students. Investigators have seized electronic devices, belonging to the student, in an attempt to gain more information. The investigation into this incident is ongoing and additional interviews are currently being performed.

The Poplar Bluff Police Department takes threats of this nature very seriously and is investigating this incident thoroughly. Additionally, we would like to commend the students who came forward in providing the information.
