SoutheastHEALTH Expands Regional Presence with Missouri Southern Healthcare

SoutheastHEALTH continues to expand its regional presence with the acquisition of the leasehold interest in Missouri Southern Healthcare in Dexter, MO from Dexter Hospital, LLC.

The transaction is subject to due diligence and is expected to close by December 31, 2012. Dexter Hospital, LLC, will manage the 50-bed acute care hospital for SoutheastHEALTH during a transition period ending June 30, 2013. SunLink Health Systems, Inc., of Atlanta, GA is the parent corporation of Dexter Hospital.

In August, the Dexter Community Regional Healthcare Foundation entered into a long-term lease with SoutheastHEALTH to assume operation of the Dexter hospital as lessee from Dexter Hospital. That agreement originally was effective in 2019 with termination of the existing lease term.

“We’re pleased that now we can begin our partnership in just a few months,” said Wayne Smith, SoutheastHEALTH President and CEO. The new venture, he added, “is consistent with our vibrant growth and our regional strategy to provide high quality, affordable healthcare, close to home.” He noted that in 2010, SoutheastHEALTH assumed management responsibilities for Ripley County Memorial Hospital in Doniphan, MO and that Southeast continues in its exploration of additional partnerships.

Smith said Missouri Southern “is a major employer and real asset to Stoddard County. We are excited about teaming up with physicians, nurses and the entire staff to offer services at Missouri Southern with the same respect, attention and personal focus on each patient’s care that has been our mission since our founding. We also look forward to continuing to build on an exceptionally positive relationship with the Dexter Foundation and taking a more active role in the community.”

/images/2012 Article Pics/Local/MOSO Mid1.jpgHe added that SoutheastHEALTH representatives will be at Missouri Southern on Tuesday “to visit with hospital staff we know and to meet those we have not yet had the privilege to meet.”

Dexter Community Regional Healthcare Foundation President Darla Grossman said the Foundation Board “is pleased that SoutheastHEALTH was able to collaborate with Dexter Hospital, LLC to assume the lease prior to 2019. This is an exciting time and we’re pleased to work with Southeast as this process continues.”

Smith said the sale of the leasehold interest and certain other assets of Missouri Southern was approximately $9.8 million. “We are fortunate to be in a very solid financial position. Our net revenues are up by 6.5 percent year over year, we are holding our costs constant and our operating margins are up significantly.” He noted that SoutheastHEALTH’s strong financial performance recently allowed a significant price reduction in many of Southeast’s imaging services.

SoutheastHEALTH has a long standing and valued relationship with the Dexter community. Southeast has maintained a satellite Cardiac Rehabilitation Clinic at Missouri Southern since 1998. Specialists from Cardiovascular Consultants, who are affiliated with the Southeast Medical Group, also offer a weekly cardiovascular clinic at Dexter.

Casey Cobb in Miss Missouri USA Competition

Casey Cobb in Miss Missouri USA Competition

Casey Cobb has been in plenty of local pageants over the years but she is currently preparing for her first state pageant: Miss Missouri USA. She has been in pageants since she was born and she immediately fell in love with the glitz and glamour and wanted to continue with it. Aside from doing local pageants, she was also in the preliminary pageant for Miss America and she is the current title holder of Miss Stoddard Co USA.

Cobb grew up in Bloomfield but attended Puxico High School for her two final years of high school and graduated in 2006. After graduation, she attended SEMO and worked in various jobs. She is now working at Town Pharmacy in Bloomfield and in her free time, she continues her training and preparation for a variety of pageants.

She has placed in many of the pageants that she has entered in and is working hard to prepare for her next challenge at Lindenwood University in St. Charles, Missouri on November 2nd through 4th. This particular competition has around thirty or forty girls that are between the ages of 18 and 27. The winner of the state contest will receive a prize package of cash, travel, wardrobe, and a scholarship from Lindenwood University.

Cobb has made sure that she set aside plenty of time to hit the gym with her personal trainer. She has learned how to eat right and stay in shape so she’s ready for any pageant that comes her way. Having a great wardrobe is also something Cobb has been working on. She has been working hard to find the perfect evening gown, swimsuit, and opening production number. Although her wardrobe is very important, she has also been working on the interview portion of the competition where she will be scored by five different judges on her communication skills and personality.

Cobb is ready for the upcoming competition on Tuesday and has had a great time doing it. She is very hopeful and thankful for all the people that have helped or encouraged her.

“I would like to thank all of the people who sponsored and donated to help me reach my dream,” Cobb says, “Also to my friends and family who have supported me and loved me through all of this, I wouldn't be so close to this achievement without you! And a special thinks to my mom, Tonia, who taught me to never give up something you want to achieve and for pushing me to be my best. I love you mom! And most of all, I would like to thank God for blessing me.”

We would like to wish Casey good luck in this pageant and the many more to come!
