In mid September of this year, Dexter was fortunate enough to gain four new tornado sirens. According to City Administrator Mark Stidham, the sirens are solar powered and have the capability of sending a message to the public in a moments notice.

Instead of giving warnings to the whole city, the sirens have the ability to send out information to certain areas who are under the threat of a tornado.

The sirens have since been installed in different areas around the town.

On the other side of things, many people may know that a deadly tornado struck the town of Diehlstadt in June earlier this year. Yesterday, residents of Diehlstadt welcomed a tornado siren.

Many citizens of Diehlstadt who were affected by the tornado say they had no warnings at all before the tornado struck.

The city of Dexter made the decision to donate the old alarm system to the town of Diehlstadt who was in much need of one. Yesterday, SEMO Electric Cooperative finished up installing the siren for the much appreciative town.

Even though one never would hope for a tornado or even severe weather, maybe next time a storm rolls through the town of Diehlstadt can be properly warned ahead of time.

The town of Diehlstadt is very appreciative of Dexter’s kind generosity.
