The third annual “This Run’s For Vaughn” Bake Sale and 5K Run/Walk fundraiser will be held Saturday, Oct. 1, helping other families with ALS.
Registration for the run will begin at 9 a.m. at the First Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) in Downtown Dexter. The run will begin at 10 a.m.
“This is the third annual run and it's the first year Vaughn won't be physically present,” said organizer Kenny Pope. “He lost his battle with ALS this past November; however, his spirit and determination will live on through this run. This year, the run is dedicated to Vaughn's memory.”
In addition to the 5k run/walk, a bake sale will be held inside the Disciple Center at the church, with lots of yummy treats.
“This is not a race but a journey through the streets of Dexter,” said co-organizer Scott Kruse.
Kruse and Pope said the money raised this year would benefit local families battling ALS.
“This is not only a great way to raise awareness and money for a debilitating disease but it's a wonderful way to remember a remarkable man, Vaughn Wright,” Pope said. “The Bake Sale and 5K Run/Walk is family event full of fun and fellowship.”
