Bernie, MO - The Bernie Chamber of Commerce will be hosting a "Running Into Summer" Color Fun Run at the city park on Saturday, May 21, 2022.
This will be a fun day for the community, complete with lots of music and the Auntie Anne's pretzel truck.
Participants may run/walk/jog around the designated route and will be sprayed and doused with color at various color stations ending with one final color celebration at the finish line.
Early Bird registration is due by May 2nd, but participants may choose same-day entry and not receive a shirt.
Check in begins at 9:00 a.m. and race start time is 10:00 a.m. at the north pavillion in Bernie City Park right off Highway 25.
Ages 13 & up are $25 and ages 12 & under are just $15. If you get registered by May 2nd you will receive a T-shirt.
If you choose to wait until the day of the event it's just $10, but they will not have a shirt available.

Bernie, MO - The Bernie High School Class of 2020 wanted a traditional graduation to end their high school career. Thirty-five students received their diplomas on Saturday, June 6, 2020. The ceremony was postponed due to COVID-19; however the gathering of family and friends was much smaller in the gym and the students were separated to be in compliance with social distancing.
Cassidy Freed lead the audience and students in the Pledge of Allegiance to open the graduation ceremony.
2020 Class president Taylor Anthony welcomed everyone to the ceremony. She thanked her teachers. "You all made us who we are and made sure to support us in anything we wanted to accomplish. I learned more the past four years than I ever thought I would."
Salutatorian Kaylie Holt received a very special award from High School Principal Brad Botsch during the ceremony. She was the only member of the class to qualify for the honors banquet every year of eligibility from 4th grade to her senior year. Though the class of 2020 did not get an Honor's Banquet this year students were recognized during the ceremony. Those recognized were Shyann Charles, Hannah Cupp, Cassidy Freed, Blake Harty, Nathan Harvey, Kaylie Holt, Kelsey Spitzer, and Emilie Vincent.
Holt was involved Future Business Leaders of America, FCCLA, Sr. Beta Club, Explore Club, Choir, and Pep Club. She was also awarded the President's Award for Academic Excellence.
"My classmates and I have all experienced many different things in our lives, but there are some things that we can all related to, like when someone parked in your unofficially assigned parking spot," commented Holt. Several of the students laughed with her.
She went on to say that BHS has provided all of the students with great opportunities and had helped prepare them for success in the future. "You only live once,"
"So do what makes you happy and don't be afraid to take some chances. But most importantly live life like there is no tomorrow because you never really know if there is one."
Sidney Cobb fought back tears as she addressed her classmates while giving her valedictorian speech. "She is a very accomplished young lady", stated Brad Botsch, Bernie High School principal. She has been involved in Future Business Leaders of America, Scholar Bowl, Pep Club, and Explore Club. She is the 2020 Student Council President, the Senior Class Vice President, and the Sr. Beta Club Vice President.
"Uncertain is the only way to describe the last few months of our high school career," stated Cobb. "COVID-19 ripped away many of the moments. We did not get to experience our senior tip, our senior faculty games, our senior prom, or our last few days together. For a lack of better words, that sucks."
In conclusion Cobb stated, "To the Bernie High School Class of 2020, I cannot even begin to describe how happy I am to know you. I have become so close with so many of you and for that, I am truly grateful. I love you all and I wish you the absolute best in your future. Stay safe and do the amazing things I know you are all capable of doing!"
Bernie, Missouri - Helena Cobb is the Bernie Parents as Teachers’ student of the month for December.
Helena will be two on January 21, 2020 and is the daughter of Clayton and Lacey Cobb.
She loves cats, music, dancing, painting, and lipstick. During PAT visits, Helena loves to take everything out of Mrs. Casey’s bag.
She also enjoys reading the new books she receives during the family’s monthly visits.

History
In 1981, Missouri pioneered the concept of helping parents embrace their important role as their child's first and best teacher. Today, Parents as Teachers continues to equip early childhood organizations and professionals with information and tools that are relevantᾢand widely applicableᾢto today's parents, families and children.
The Parents as Teachers leadership team and Board of Directors is engaged in a three-year strategic plan, which positions the organization as a valued partner to support the organizations and professionals who serve families and children, especially those most vulnerable.
The concept for Parents as Teachers was developed in the 1970s when Missouri educators noted that children were beginning kindergarten with varying levels of school readiness. Research showed that greater parent involvement is a critical link in the child's development of learning skills, including reading and writing.
Early childhood professionals suggested that a program to provide early detection of developmental delays and health issues, and parent education to help parents understand their role in encouraging their child's development from the beginning could help improve school readiness and parent involvement.
With funding from the Missouri Department of Elementary and Secondary Education and The Danforth Foundation, Parents as Teachers began in 1981 in Missouri as a pilot project for first-time parents of newborns. Recognizing the program's benefits and cost effectiveness, the Missouri legislature provided state funding in 1985 to implement Parents as Teachers programs in all Missouri school districts. Since 1985, Parents as Teachers has expanded to all 50 states and six other countries.
Bernie, Missouri - Baylee Ann McDonald is the two year old daughter of Sarah Martinez and is the Bernie Parents as Teachers Student of the Month for June.
Baylee enjoys playing with her two dogs, dancing and being silly with Mommy, and playing with her older brother. She also loves playing in the swimming pool.
During the family’s PAT visits, Baylee enjoys looking at new books and finding pens in Mrs. Courtney’s bag and writing with them.
Bernie, Missouri - Bernie Parents As Teachers program received a $500 grant through the Wal-Mart Community Grant Program.
Malden Walmart recently awarded Bernie School District’s Parents as Teachers program with this $500 grant.

The grant money is being used towards the purchase of children’s books that will be given away to families during home visits.
