Bloomfield, Missouri - The Bloomfield Chamber of Commerce held a ribbon cutting at the Bloomfield Living Center (formerly Golden Living Center) on Friday, February 17, 2017.  The facility is under new ownership and new management.

Bloomfield Living Center was recently purchased by Health Systems Inc. in September of 2016.  Michelle Chism is now the administrator for the facility as well.

The facility is located at 606 W Missouri St.  It is a small facility with 60 beds and has for-profit, corporate ownership and takes both Medicare and Medicaid.

They also offer comprehensive inpatient and outpatient  rehabilitation programs with specialized programming built for seniors including fitness training, dementia management and Lymphedema treatment.

It's a Wonderful Life in Bloomfield

Bloomfield, Missouri - The Bloomfield Chamber of Commerce would like to invite you to the 2nd Annual It's a Wonderful Life in Bloomfield event on Wednesday, December 14, 2016 from 5:00 p.m. - 8:00 p.m.

Enjoy an evening of Christmas cheer filled with entertainment, photos with Santa Claus, a Pet Parade/Contest at 6:00 p.m. and Zach Zook will perform the Christmas Reading.  There will be lots of hot chocolate, coffee, cookies, snacks, candy, chili and more all free.  Buddy Heaton will also have the community choir singing old fashioned Christmas songs!

The Chamber would like to invite all local businesses and churches to join them.  Goldie DeGroot encourages anyone to participate by setting up a booth or table.  If you are unable to set up a booth, donations are welcome.  There will also be prizes.  Just give her a call at (573) 568-9996 or (573) 568-2584.

The purpose of this event is to bring Bloomfield together for one special night of Christmas cheer and to enjoy an evening around the courthouse.  Roadblocks will be set up so traffic will be diverted that evening.  Burning barrels will also be available to keep your hands toasty warm while listening to beautiful Christmas music.

Bloomfield Heritage Days Set for This Weekend

Bloomfield, Missouri - Bloomfield Heritage Days, sponsored by the Bloomfield Chamber of Commerce, will be held this weekend Friday, Saturday, and Sunday, April 22nd, 23rd, and 24th at the Bloomfield City Park. It’s about celebrating our community and providing a welcoming festival in the spring!

Step back in time to their festival that will showcase traditional music and entertainment, artisan crafts, a tractor show, special activities for the children featuring a Candy Cannon and a/images/2016 Images/Charleston Turtle.jpg living history encampment with a food court to delight everyone.

On Friday, Two Feathers Trading will have their Living History Encampment from the 1800's.  Step back in time and smell the aroma of fresh kettle corn, indulge your taste buds with homemade rootbeer, chicken & dumplins, fried pies, French onion soup. ham & beans and much more.  Primitive traders will be selling their hand crafted leather while a blacksmith forges his iron.

Children of all ages will enjoy the infamous Candy Cannon and have fun at the hands-on learning center where they can pet live turtles, feel the furs of buffalo, skunk, possum, raccoon and many more Missouri animals.  They can throw a hawk or shoot a longbow or try their hand at throwing the atlatl.

Modern crafters will be set up on Saturday only.  The Miss Bloomfield Heritage Days Pageants begin at 10:00 a.m. for ages 0 - 9 months, 10 - 23 months, 2 - 3 years, 4 - 6 years, 7 - 10 years, 11 - 13 years, and 14 and up.  Registration begins at 9:00 a.m.

There will be plenty of music as well.  On Friday evening Zack Zook and the Leftover will perform beginning at 7:00 p.m.  On Saturday Rawhide will perform at 8:30 a.m.1:00 p.m. and 5:00 p.m., the McAtees at 9:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m., Maggie Thorn at 11:30 a.m. and 2:30 p.m.

Bloomfield Chamber Spotlight - Stars & Stripes Museum

Bloomfield, Missouri - The Bloomfield Chamber of Commerce is offering a new and exciting weekly feature to better acquaint our community with local businesses.

This week’s spotlight shines on the Stars & Stripes Museum and Library operated by Jim and Sue Mayo.

Bloomfield is the true and actual birthplace of the original military newspaper, "The Stars and Stripes" first printed on November 9, 1861.


The museum features more than 7,500 square feet of exhibits including current and past copies of the Stars and Stripes for visitors to examine.  There is a 12-minute video featuring former Stripes correspondents Andy Rooney and Steve Kroft.

 

There is a Civil Ward Exhibit, World War 1 Exhibit, World War II Exhibit, Korean War Exhibit,Vietnam War Exhibit, Cold War Exhibit, Gulf War Exhibit, Kosovo and Bosnia Exhibit, Operation Enduring Freedom Exhibit,  Operation Iraqi Freedom Exhibit and a full library.

 

The museum is open Monday, Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday from 10:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m. and Saturday from 10:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m.

The Stoddard County Historical Society meets monthly at the Stars & Stripes.  They typically have a very god speaker.  The next meeting will be Monday, February 22nd at 6:30 p.m.  Dr. Bill Shell will discuss the life of Moses Austin and Lead Mining in Missouri.  The public is welcome.  This is a free event.

It's A Wonderful Life Hosted by Bloomfield Chamber

Bloomfield, Missouri - The Bloomfield Chamber of Commerce will host “It’s A Wonderful Life” at the historic Stoddard County Courthouse on Wednesday, December 16th beginning at 5:30 p.m. 

Presentation of Colors, Pledge of Allegiance and the National Anthem will open the festivities.   Then a few songs played by the Bloomfield High School Band to get you in the Christmas mood. 

The Doggie Dress Up Contest will begin around 5:30 p.m. Bring your four legged furry friend dressed for the holiday.  Large or small they will take them all!  No fee to enter, but prizes will be given for the Best Dressed or Best Christmas Outfit!

At 6:00 p.m. Buddy Heaton will present The Community Choir and a few holiday songs to ring in the Christmas season.

Zach Zook & The Leftovers will also perform while patrons walk around the Courthouse enjoying hot chocolate and sweet, various foods, games, and a few craft booths for last minute shopping.

At 7:00 p.m. the Ministerial Alliance will have a brief prayer service.  The final event will be the long awaited Bloomfield Chamber Christmas Lights Awards ceremony.

Beginning November 30 – December 15th Bloomfield will light up their yards, their businesses, churches, and neighborhoods in the best of lighting tradition.  Award categories will be The Clark Griswold Award for the tackiest lighting; Classic Christmas with all white lights, The Elf Award is the one with the most spirit, Best Street so you better encourage your neighbors, Best Business, and Best Church. 

On Tuesday, December 15th just after dark the Bloomfield Future Business Leaders of America Club will survey the town and go to addresses of those who entered to judge the contestants.
