Phyllis Ann Edwards, daughter of the late Dewey Green and Vida Houchins Green was born on August 12, 1937, in Malden, MO and departed this life on August 9, 2024, at Cypress Point Skilled Nursing in Dexter at the age of 86 years.
Phyllis was a wonderful mother who was always there when we needed her the most, offering support, wisdom, and love in abundance. She was a member of the New Bethel Church. She operated the scales at Keener Gravel for many years. She and Floyd loved to travel and enjoyed time with their family.
She married the love of her life Floyd Edwards in Dexter on July 22, 1955. They were married 66 years.
She is survived by three daughters, Vida Edwards Shipman and fiancé Kenny of Bernie, Shelley McClintock and husband Brian of Dexter, and Amy Asher of Bernie; by her son, Kent Edwards and wife Desiree of Dexter; by seven grandchildren, Keith Edwards and Christy of Dexter, Amanda Edwards and fiancé Matt of Brosley, Mark McClintock and fiancé Ashley of Dexter, Andrew Edwards and wife Brittney of Dexter, Sara Owens and husband Chad of Bernie, Dalton Leach of Park Hills, Jerica Hilliard and husband Hayden of Fruitland; by twelve great grandchildren, Emily Hester, Abby Powell, Laney Edwards, Gunner Powell, Eyan McClintock, Wyatt Powell, Paisley Owens, Ryder Edwards, Emery McClintock, Kensley Edwards, Ely McClintock, Charley Owens, Trisha Griffin, Lexi Griffin, and Mary Lynn Boyles; by her sister, Mary Taylor of Dexter.
In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by her brother, Leroy Green; her sisters, Ruth Day and Mable Green and her son-in- laws Trent Shipman and Jeremy Asher.
Visitation will be held at Mathis Funeral Home in Dexter on Monday, August 12, 2024, from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Funeral Services will be conducted in the Mathis Funeral Home Chapel on Tuesday, August 13, 2024, at 10:00 a.m. Interment will follow in the Sadler Chapel Cemetery in Dexter.

Ronnie Dale Wheatley, son of the late Arthur Edward Wheatley and Betty Rose Kirby Wheatley, was born on February 18, 1968, in Aurora, Illinois, and departed this life on August 7, 2024, in Benton, Missouri at the age of 56 years.
Mr. Wheatley was a truck driver for Delta Growers Association and Delta Concrete. He enjoyed camping, fishing, and anything outdoors. He had attended the Lighthouse Christian Church in Dexter.
On June 11, 2005 he was united in marriage to Pamela Waldo in East Prairie, Missouri. Mrs. Wheatley survives of their home in Benton.
Along with his wife, he is survived by two sons, Vito Waldo and fiancé Johannah, of Benton, Missouri, Nicholas Waldo and wife Somer, of Rolla, Missouri; by one daughter, Rose Green and husband Michael, of Martin, TN; by four brothers, Bobby Wheatley and wife, Linda, Danny Wheatley, and wife Laura, Robert Wheatley and wife Faye, and Jimmy Wheatley, all of East Prairie, Missouri; by one sister, Carol Wheatley, of East Prairie, Missouri, and by fifteen grandchildren.
Other than by his parents, he was preceded in death by two sisters: Hilda Greer and Brenda Carwright.
Visitation will be held Monday, August 12, 2024, from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at the Lighthouse Church in Dexter, Missouri. Funeral Services will then be conducted at 1:00 p.m. with Pastor Tim Russell officiating.

Maggie Lee Thornton, affectionately known as Pee-Wee, passed away on July 29, 2024 at Puxico, Missouri. She was born on July 17, 1952, in Webb, Mississippi, to Andrew and Hattie (Charis) Cohen. Maggie was a beloved soul who touched the hearts of many with her kind spirit and loving nature.
On November 2, 1984, Maggie married the love of her life Perry Thornton, Sr. in Malden, Missouri and they remained married until the time of his passing on May 10, 2022.
Maggie was a member of the New Mt. Zion Baptist Church of Essex, Missouri.
Throughout her life, Maggie found joy in simple pleasures. She had a passion for fishing and cooking, but above all, she cherished the moments spent with her family, especially spoiling her grandchildren with love and affection. Maggie loved to watch the Kansas City Chiefs and the St. Louis Cardinals, but her favorite past time was listening to her brother-in-law, Bobby sing or tell stories.
Maggie is survived by a large and loving family who will always hold her memory dear. She is survived by five sons: Dennis Thornton of Essex, Missouri; Perry and wife Amber Thornton of Poplar Bluff, Missouri; Mark Thornton of Sikeston, Missouri; Stanley and wife Suzi Smith of Cape Girardeau, Missouri; Greg and Maria Smith of Independence, Missouri. Additionally, she is survived by one daughter, Julia Thornton of Essex, Missouri.
Her presence will be deeply missed by thirteen grandchildren and one great-grandchild with another on the way. Maggie is also survived by two brothers: Jessie Charis and Elijah Perry both of Detroit Michigan; three sisters: Shirley Cohen, Laura Butts, Teresa Charis all of Detroit Michigan; a close friend and transit driver, Mr. Rodgers .
In the embrace of eternity, Maggie joins her loved ones who passed before her: her parents; her husband Perry Thornton Sr.; one brother James Cohen; three sisters Ann, Mary, and Doris Cohen; and one grandson Taytor.
A celebration of Maggie's life will be held at Malden Community Center in Malden Missouri on August 10, 2024. The visitation will take place from 11:00 AM to 12:00 PM followed by the Celebration of Life service at 12:00 PM. with Pastor Moses Grayson officiating. The interment will be at Macedonia Cemetery in Malden at 3:00 PM on the same day.
Maggie Lee Thornton's presence brought warmth and love to all who knew her. May she rest in peace knowing she was cherished by many.
Cathy Diane Ross, 74, passed away July 30, 2024, in St. Louis County, Missouri.
Cathy was born on March 6, 1950, in Dexter, Missouri, daughter of the late Charles Gisi and Esther Snider Gisi. On August 1, 1970, she was united in marriage to James Alan Ross in Essex, Missouri.
A beloved wife, mother, mimi, and sister, she was a long-time resident of Chesterfield, Missouri where she attended Grace Church Saint Louis.
Survivors include, her husband, James Alan Ross of Chesterfield, Missouri; her daughter; Natalie Hughes (Scott) of Chesterfield, Missouri; her son Nathan Ross (Kayla) of Ballwin, Missouri; her son Neal Ross (Karen) of Houston, Texas; five grandchildren, Logan and Lauren Hughes, Helen and Jane Ross, and Christopher Ross; and her sister, Mary Jo Mills (Steve) of Forest, Virginia; and two nephews David Mills (Rachel) and Daniel Mills (Heidi) of Forest, Virginia.
Visitation will be held at Mathis Funeral Home in Dexter on Saturday, August 3, 2024, from 12:00 p.m. until 2:00 p.m. Funeral services will be conducted in the Mathis Funeral Home Chapel on Saturday, August 3, 2024, at 2:00 p.m. with Rev. David Craig officiating. Interment will follow in the Essex Cemetery.

James "Jim" K. Johnson went to be with the Lord Saturday July 27, 2024, at the age of 80. He was born November 16, 1943, in St. Louis, Missouri to the late James Monroe Johnson and Charlotte Johnson Bryant. He was a 1961 graduate of Dexter High School after moving to Dexter from Caruthersville, Missouri his senior year.
He was united in marriage to Glenda Simpson on June 29, 1965, and they recently celebrated their 59th wedding anniversary.
He honorably served in the United States Army from 1965 to 1967. During this time, he was awarded the National Defense Service medal, noted as a Marksman (Rifle) and received the parachutist badge ("jump school") while serving in a medical battalion as a supply sergeant in Germany.
Jim was a bricklayer by trade, known for his very precise handywork throughout the Southeast Missouri area. He was especially proud of his work on the Twin Towers in Poplar Bluff, Missouri. He was a lifelong, self-employed farmer and enjoyed baling hay for friends and neighbors until the last couple of years when his health declined. Many friendships were made over the years at the Johnson Family Strawberry Farm.
He is survived by his wife, Glenda, of the family home in Dexter; three daughters, LaDonna Beers (Sugar Land, TX), Trinka Adkisson (Dave) (Charleston, MO), Charlotte Smith (Daniel) (Jackson, MO); his pride and joy grandchildren, Morgan Gates (Jeff), Haley Garcia, Nolan Smith, Nicolas Smith, and Nathan Smith; two great grandchildren Sage and Hudson; his sister Doris Johnson of Dexter, MO; and other family members. He will be missed by his frisky farm cats.
He was proceeded in death by his parents and step-father, Berbage Bryant.
To honor his wishes there will be no public memorial service.
