
James “Jim” L. Higgs of Dexter, Missouri passed away on January 27, 2023. He was born November 1, 1943, in Gatewood, Missouri to Thomas Lloyd and Louella Higgs. He was joined in marriage to Violet M. Gardner on August 29, 1970, in St. Louis County, Missouri.
Jim was a longtime employee of Arvin Automotive, retiring after 30 years, a member of the Dexter Masonic Lodge No. 532 AF & AM, and a member of the Harvest Assembly of God.
He was preceded in death by his parents, and sisters: Rosalie Johnson, Mary Martin, and Betty McElroy.
He is survived by his wife of 52 years; daughter, Vickie Higgs and Derek Driskill (significant other); grandchildren, Taylor Winstead, Krysta (Kyle) Souleyrette, and Andrew Soule.
He will be greatly missed by a host of friends and family.
Visitation will be held at Mathis Funeral Home in Dexter on Tuesday, January 31, 2023, from 12:00 p.m. until 1:00 p.m. Funeral services will then be conducted in the Mathis Funeral Home Chapel on Tuesday, January 31, 2023, at 1:00 p.m. Interment will follow in the Caroline Dowdy Cemetery.

Helen Patricia “Pat” Hubbard Carrier, daughter of the late Helen Peacock, was born on September 23, 1938, in Claremore, Oklahoma, and departed this life on January 26, 2023, at Cypress Point Skilled Nursing in Dexter, Missouri, at the age of 84 years.
Mrs. Carrier was a Veteran of the United States Navy, a former employee of Walmart in Dexter, and a resident of Dexter. She was a member of First Baptist Church in Dexter, a member of the Disabled American Veteran Auxiliary, where she was a former Treasurer and Adjutant; and a member of the Eastern Shawnee Tribe of Oklahoma.
In 1959, in Waukegan, Illinois, she was first united in marriage to Charles Hubbard, he preceded her in death on September 5, 2002. On April 11, 1997, in Pensacola, Florida, she was united in marriage to Carl Carrier. Mr. Carrier preceded her in death on May 20, 2006.
She is survived by three sons, Doug Hubbard and wife Sonya of West Plains, Missouri, Denny Hubbard and wife Michelle of Dexter, Missouri, and David Hubbard and wife Anna of Paragould, Arkansas; by her daughter, Gwen Hubbard of West Plains, Missouri; by ten grandchildren, Michael Johnson (Deborah), Stephanie Nelson (Gary), Nicole Kimbrough, Dillon Hubbard (Thu), Aaron Hubbard (Crystal), Hailee Hubbard, Britney Hubbard, Dalton Hubbard, Daniel Hubbard, and Keith Lanford (Janey); by eight great-grandchildren, McKenzie Hubbard, Easton Hubbard, Dallis Hubbard, Peyton Nelson, Baylieh-Ana Lanford, Zeth Lanford, Riley Lanford, and Christian Lanford; and by other relatives and many friends.
Other than by her mother, she was preceded in death by her sister, Karen Collins.
Visitation was held at Mathis Funeral Home in Dexter on Monday, January 30, 2023, from 11:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. Funeral services were then conducted in the Mathis Funeral Home Chapel on Monday, January 30, 2023, at 1:00 p.m. with Rev. Mitch Grainger officiating. Interment will follow in the Missouri State Veterans Cemetery in Bloomfield.

Paul Ferral (Bub) Yates Jr. of Dudley, Missouri, son of the late Paul Ferral and Frieda Mae (Wilkerson) Yates, was born on November 11, 1937, in Dudley, Missouri, and passed from this life on January 28, 2023, in Poplar Bluff, Missouri, at the age of 85.
He lived in the Southeast Missouri area all of his life. Paul loved hunting, fishing, gardening, putting up Christmas lights, spending time with family, especially spoiling his grand and great-grandchildren, but his greatest enjoyment was being able to witness for his Lord And Savior, Jesus Christ. He was a member and Deacon of the Puxico General Baptist Church.
He retired in 1999 from construction and farming.
Paul married Doris Jane Scates on September 20, 1957, in Fisk, Missouri.
Paul is survived by his wife of the home; two daughters, Janet (Brent) Davis of Poplar Bluff, Missouri, and Tina (Kenny) Brown of Mt. Juliet, Tennessee; one brother, William (Cammie) Yates; one sister, Kathy (Blair) Musbach of Florida; three grandchildren, Alicia (James), Nikki (Caleb), Jenna (Chris); four great-grandchildren; and one great-great- grandchild; many nieces and nephews and a host of family and friends
Paul was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Franklin Yates.
Visitation will be held on Friday, February 3, 2023, from 12:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. at the Watkins and Sons Funeral Chapel in Puxico, Missouri.
Funeral Services will be held on Friday , February 3, 2023, at 2:00 p.m. with Pastor Kenneth Lambert of Puxico officiating with interment at the Puxico Cemetery and Watkins and Sons Funeral Home of Dexter in charge of all arrangements.

Nellie Jean Thurman of Union, Missouri, daughter of the late Ira and Sophia Ann (Kelley) Avery was born on May 22, 1930, in Essex, Missouri, and passed from this life on January 26, 2023, in Hermann, Missouri, at the age of 92 years, 8 months and 4 days.
Nellie was united in marriage to the love of her life Rubin Clayton Thurman on June, 12, 1947, in Gray Ridge, Missouri, and remained married until his passing on October 6, 2000.
She was born and raised in the Essex/ Stoddard County area and moved to St. Louis in 1950. She was member of the First Washington United Methodist Church. Nellie loved to sew and cooking for her family. She especially loved fishing with her husband. Nellie worked many years as a seamstress tailoring for companies like J.C. Penny, and Johns Tailoring and also made custom suits for many of the St. Louis Cardinals.
Nellie is survived by one son, Roy Clayton (Lory) Thurman of Union, Missouri; two granddaughters, Melissa (Rob) Schulze and Michelle (Corey) Kasmann; three great-grandchildren, Reese Shulze, Dallas Schulze and Wade Kasmann; many nieces and nephews as well as a host of family and friends.
She was proceeded in death by two brothers, John Wesley and Ira Avery; five sisters, Gladys Dowdy, Mildred Moore, Nola Campbell, Mary Bizzell and Susie Smith. Also, by a niece, Rosalyn Coffey.
Visitation service will be Friday, February 3, 2023 from 10:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. with the Service to follow at the Watkins And Sons Funeral Chapel in Dexter, Missouri, with Pastor Troy Merseal officiating.
Interment will follow at the Liberty Cemetery in Bloomfield, Missouri, with Watkins and Sons Funeral of Dexter in charge of arrangements.

Bobby Ray Lambert, known as Bud by his loved ones, son of the late George Lambert and Millie Carlene Hornbeck, was born on December 11, 1934, in Tiptonville, TN, and left this earth on January 25th, 2023, in Puxico, MO age of 88.
Bobby was a loving husband, father, and grandfather. He worked hard to provide for his family. He loved being outdoors, gardening, and being with his loved ones. From an early age, he farmed around Sikeston, MO, and later continued farming and working at Laclede Steel in Alton, IL. During the 1970s, he moved to Bloomfield, MO, with his brother-in-law James Sanders and opened S & L Floor Covering. Bobby spent the majority of his life in the Bloomfield community.
On January 20, 1951, he married Mary Elizabeth Baremore in Piggott, Ark.
Bobby lived a full life surrounded by loved ones. Before his passing, he had made peace with The Lord and was ready to reunite with his loving wife of 57 years and his son. Bobby enjoyed his independence, riding around Dexter on his little red scooter.
Survivors include one daughter, Donna Ruth, and husband, Danny Nelson; two sons, Micheal Eugene and wife Teresa Lambert; and Jeffrey Keith Lambert. One brother-in-law, Barnard Elmer Baremore; four grandchildren, Shawn Robert Lambert and Eric Norden Lambert; Teri Ladawn Crowe and fiance Brett Kelley; Madison Elissa Lambert and many other loved ones.
Mr. Lambert was preceded in death by his loving wife, Mary; his parents, two sisters; one brother, one son, Stanley Ray Lambert; and one granddaughter, Dacie Ruth Crowe.
Pallbearers will be Brett Kelley, Brian Baremore, Alan Baremore, Shawn Lambert, Damian Lambert, and Waylon Zook. Honorary pallbearers will be Barnard Baremore, Danny, Donna Nelson, Michael, Teresa Lambert, Jeffrey Lambert, Teri Ladawn Crowe, Eric Lambert, and Madison Lambert.
