In Memory of Vaneta Hendley King

Vaneta Hendley King, daughter of the late Eldon Proffer and Delia Foeste Proffer, was born on June 22, 1924 in Cape Girardeau, Missouri and departed this life on June 20, 2021 at Southeast Health Center of Stoddard County in Dexter, Missouri, at the age of 96 years and died just two days shy of her 97th birthday.

Mrs. Hendley was a member of the First General Baptist Church in Bloomfield and a member of the Order of the Eastern Star. She resided on the family farm just north of Aquilla, Missouri. She had worked as a floor supervisor at Elder’s Manufacturing in Bloomfield and had also worked for the Visiting Nurse Association. She looked forward to interacting with all those who came to enjoy the Hendley Fishing Lake and the Hendley Pecan Grove. She loved spending time with her family and cooking their favorite treats. Her grandchildren looked forward to camping and spending the summers on the farm. She enjoyed a good game of dominoes and played to win, which she usually did. She took great pride in growing beautiful red roses and watching for the first hummingbird of spring.

She was first united in marriage to Joe H. Hendley on July 3, 1944, in Bloomfield. Mr. Hendley preceded her in death on October 24, 1997. She was then united in marriage to Blanton King on June 8, 2002 in Bloomfield. Mr. King preceded her in death on June 28, 2015.

She is survived by her son James Hendley and wife Fran of Bloomfield, Missouri; by her daughter, Jolinda Hendley of Colorado Springs, Colorado; by four grandchildren, Eric Olson and wife Sara, Joe Hendley and wife Kathy, Nicole Dages, and Tyler Hendley and wife Ashley; and by twelve great- grandchildren, Riley Olson, Jack Olson, Hailee Dages, Walker Dages, Nolan Dages, Wyatt Hendley, Katie Hendley, Isaac Hendley, Tessa Hendley, Clara Hendley, Maren Hendley, and Lucy Hendley.

Other than by her husbands and parents, she was preceded in death by her grandson, Cody Hendley

Visitation will be held at Mathis Funeral Home in Dexter on Saturday, June 26, 2021 from 9:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m.

Funeral services will then be conducted on Saturday, June 26, 2021 in the Mathis Funeral Chapel at 11:00 a.m. with Rev. Tyler Hendley officiating. Interment will follow in the Walker Cemetery near Bloomfield.

Memorials may be made to the Cody Hendley scholarship fund. Envelopes will be provided at the funeral home.

Mathis Funeral Home in Dexter is in charge of arrangements.
