Dexter Bearcats Golf Team Won First District Title in Nine Years

The Dexter Bearcat Golf Team won their first District Title in nine years on Monday, April 29th at the St. Francois Country Club in Farmington, Missouri.

They defeated 2nd place Farmington by 9 strokes to win the Class 3, District 1 tourney with a score of 333; Farmington posted a 342.

In 2010 the 'Cats placed 3rd in the state tournament.

“I would have never expected 333 to win today,” stated Dexter coach Eric Sitze, “ but it did and I couldn’t be happier for the kids. They have played better but we will take it today.”

Spencer Warren of Dexter placed second with a 2-over 74.

Wil Claywell, of North County, won the individual championship with a 73.

“Spencer was right there for first again today,” Sitze said. “He is getting closer. He started out minus-3 on his first four holes. We had an hour-plus rain delay that might have affected his momentum a little.”

All five Dexter golfers placed in the top 16.

Dylan Sitze tied for 6th with 82, Cy Worley tied for ninth with 88, Ryan Collier was 11th with 89, and Luke Becker was 16th with 92.

Dexter will compete in the Class 3 Sectional Tournament Monday, May 6, 2019 at Crown Pointe Golf Course in Farmington.

DHS Boys Tennis Team to Participate in Coaches for Cancer

DHS Boys Tennis Team to Participate in Coaches for Cancer
On April 29th the Dexter HS Boy's Tennis Team will participating in the State-Wide Coaches for Cancer event.  (Originally slated for May 2nd, but Mother Nature once again disrupts spring sporting event in southeast Missouri).

On this day they will play in honor of those in the community who are dealing with the hardships related to cancer.

100% of all money raised will be donated to the following institutions or individuals:  Bloomfield HS Teacher Lori Vaughn, 18ForeLife, and Friends of Kids with Cancer.

"This community was very kind to us in our time of need," commented Dexter head tennis coach Eric Boles when speaking of his son's cancer. "I would like to find a way to give back."

"I also have a goal as a teacher and a coach," continued Boles.  "I want to teach my students/players what it means to be a member of the community.  I never really had this growing up.  May father was in the military and we were never anywhere long enough to become part of a community.  I never had a HOME TOWN!!!"

"My students do not realize what they have as a member of the town of Dexter and the community of Stoddard County and this is just my way of helping them realize that fact.

They hope to make this an annual event where a portion of the money raised will go to someone linked to SCAA County Schools receiving a small love offering to help with their battle with cancer.

You can pledge per team win (maximum of 9 wins per tennis match-up), you can pledge for each individual game win (maximum of 16 game wins per athlete), or you can pledge a flat amount.  No pledge is too small or too large.

They will have a sign with all the names of individuals whom the pledges were made in honor of at the event.

Thank you for your donation and your help with this team community service project.

"I also am a big believer in giving students a chance to do some community service...and this is our way.  It's a SMALL effort that I hope to grow a bit bigger in the future.  Not sure if anyone else is doing this in Missouri, but I am not aware of any Southeast Missouri teams doing this."
