Aaron Pixley Named Dexter Head Football Coach
Dexter, Missouri - Aaron Pixley was named DHS Head Football Coach at a recent school board meeting according to C.A. Counts, Superintendent at Dexter Public Schools.

"I didn't accept the job just for football, but really for the chance to try to have an impact on all our athletes," commented Pixley.

Pixley is currently serving as Activities/Athletic Director for Dexter PUblic Schools.

"Right now I have to focus on finishing as the AD," continued Pixley.  "I really don't know how it will feel being back out there, but I am happy to do it.  I have been blessed with good coaches and administration to work with this year."

In his first year as the Dexter Head Coach, Pixley had a team shirt that stated his philosophy toward the game of football, and obviously life.  The slogan read "Never Accept Mediocrity".

His thirteen seasons at the gridiron master has provided our community many exciting Friday nights.  His record tells the story with 78 wins which is a record for any Head Coach at Dexter HIgh School.  His two best seasons were in 2002 in his third year as the head coach, the Bearcats had a season of 8-3 and then in 2010 was perhaps his most memorable year with a record of 8-5 and playing in the Missouri State Quarterfinals. 
 
The Bearcats have scored 3,285 points with their opponents scoring 2,670.  In addition, they have been able to experience the joys of victory with three titles as SEMO Conference Champions, 2002, 2005 and 2011 under Pixley.  The Bearcats won four District Playoffs, 2002, 2005, 2010 and 2011, with 2010 making it to the State Quarterfinal. 

Dexter head football coach Kevin Goltra resigned in December 2017.

Bullpen Club Donates to DHS Baseball Program

Dexter, Missouri - The Dexter Bearcat Bullpen Club presented a check in the amount of $3,000 to Dexter High School Activities Director Aaron Pixley and High School Principal Alana Dowdy at a recent boys basketball game in the Bearcat Event Center.

The Bullpen Club was started two years ago in an effort to raise funds to support the renovations to the baseball field as well as provide additional opportunities for students and athletes involved in baseball.

Bullpen Club officers are Coach Brian Becker, Caleb Miller, Natalie Riley and Tory Hillis.

The Bearcat baseball team will kick off their 2018 season on March 17th.

Mullins and Jackson Surpass 1,000 Points in Basketball

Dexter,  Missouri - Clay Mullins and Gabe Jackson have given Bearcat fans many special memories over the past few years. 

Each surpassed their 1,000th point during the 2018 Bearcat basketball season.

Presenting them with a basketball are fellow teammates Ben Sindle and Alan Pippins to help them remember their accomplishment in the future.

Senior night will be Thursday, February 22, 2018 at the Bearcat Event Center.  Come out and watch them play one more time in regular season against the Cape Central Tigers!

DHS Weightlifting Athletes Earn 2nd Place Finish at Scott City

Scott City, Missouri - The Coach Kevin Goltra's weightlifting class placed 2nd at the annual Scott City Weight Lifting Tournament. Both junior varsity and varsity competed against eleven other schools.

"This was the second time in recent history of the school that athletes have attend a competition like this and they performed very well,"  commented Goltra. "Last year the freshmen/sophomore division took first place.  This year our varsity took second."

Three new Weight Meet records were achieved by Mason Keena and Austin Adams.

Medal winners were: Mason Keena, Travis Waldner, Dylan Homan, Trevor McDonald, Nick Trout, Austin Adams, Bo McMullin, Hunter Lawrence, Carson Bell, Cory Ezell, Ryder Foster, Johnathan Wright, Hayden Hills, and Trenton Willis.

"I am extremely proud of these kids," stated Goltra.  "Their hard work in class is really beginning to pay off."

2018 Winter Sports Senior Night Featuring Hannah Thurmon

Dexter, Missouri - Monday, February 19, 2018 was the Lady Cats basketball Winter Senior Night featuring one senior, Miss Hannah Thurmon.

Hannah is the daughter of Matt and Minday Thurmon.

She participated in volleyball for three year and basketball all four years of high school.

Hannah is a member of Fellowship of Christian Athletes, Future Business Leaders of America, Sr. Beta Club, Pepp Club, and Future Teachers of America.

In volleyball her sophomore and senior seasons, she earned All Conference, 1st Team All District, 1st Team All Region, 1st Team All State and received the Dexter High School team Blocking Award.

Hannah received the Kill and Blocking Award in the SEMO Conference her senior season as well.

In basketball she earned All Conference, All District, and the Dexter High School team Blocking Award in both her freshman and junior season.  As a senior she has made the Lady Royals Classic All-Tournament Team ans was the Player of the Game at the Poplar Bluff Shootout.

Her future plans are to play basketball at Three Rivers College and major in Nursing.  She signed a letter of intent earlier this school year.
