
Dexter, Missouri - The Dexter High School Junior Varsity boys basketball team is ready to begin their 2016-2017 season at home in the Bearcat Event Center against the tough Charleston Bluejays. Game time 6:00 p.m.
"Our Junior Varsity team has a lot of size this season," commented head basketball coach Josh Dowdy. "This will be one of our taller JV teams Dexter has had in years."
"We will be playing quite a few freshman so we will be inexperienced as far as logging high school minutes," continued Dowdy. "We are working real hard on taking care of the ball and making good decisions."
"These guys are putting in some time and I am confident over the next three or four years it will pay off for them," Dowdy said of the future.
Playing for the Junior Varsity Bearcats are Joe Rice a 5'9" sophomore guard, Spencer Warren, a 6'1" freshman forward, Brodie Pollock, a 6'2" freshman forward, Logan Wyman, a 5'8" freshman guard, Nate Gargas, a 5'9" sophomore guard, Haden Hillis, a 5'10" freshman guard, Philip Toledo, a 6'4" freshman forward, Braxton Foster, a 6'3" sophomore forward, Justin Kenley, a 6'0" sophomore forward, Garrett Henson, a 6'2" freshman forward, and Alfonso Torres, a 5'10" junior guard.
Head Coach is Josh Dowdy, Assistant Coach is Zac Moore and managers are Levi Fortner and Ben Dowdy.

Dexter, Missouri - The 2016 Dexter High School Freshman boys basketball season will begin on Thursday, December 8th at Twin Rivers High School. Head coach is Zac Moore, Assistant Coach is Josh Dowdy. Managers are Levi Fortner and Ben Dowdy.
"The freshman guys have come in this year ready to learn and get better," coach Dowdy said in an emailed comment. "They are a real coachable bunch."
When asked about what drills the freshman have been working on during the pre-season, Coach Dowdy stated, "We have been emphasizing ball handling and defense each day."
Playing at the 9th grade level are: Spencer Warren, Brodie Pollock, Preston Walton, Logan Wyman, Colten Bollinger, Haden Hillis, Philip Toledo, Joon Jin, Austin Guy, Garrett Henson, and Shawn Robards.

Dexter, Missouri - The spotlight shines on a young group of men and women who were very gracious helping and supporting the Dexter High School Football Team during their 2016 season.
They are a part of the special needs class that helps with the laundering of the jerseys for the football team.
The DHS Bearcats celebrated and thanked them with a very special pizza party. Then gave them each a football jersey of their own.
"These fine young men and women were so gracious this year," commented head football coach Kevin Goltra. "We thank them for all the hard work they put in supporting the Bearcats football team!"

Essex, Missouri - The 2016 SCAA Junior High Boys Basketball Tournament continues on Monday, November 14, 2016.
On Saturday, the 8th grade Dexter Bearcats defeated Richland. Bloomfield defeated Advance setting up a semifinal match-up between the Dexter Bearcats and the Bloomfield Wildcats at 5:15 p.m. on Monday, November 14th.
Bernie defeated Puxico and Bell City beat Woodland on Saturday. Bernie will play Bell City at 7:45 p.m. in semifinal 8th grade action.
In the 7th grade tournament Dexter beat Puxico and Woodland defeated Advance. Bernie had a bye on Saturday and will now play Woodland at 4:00 p.m. on Monday. Bloomfield 7th grade team also had a bye and will face the Dexter Bearcats at 6:30 p.m. on Monday.
The 8th grade SCAA Championship will be at 7:45 p.m. on Tuesday, November 15th. 3rd place game will be at 5:15 p.m.
The 7th grade SCAA Championship will be at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday, November 15th. 3rd place game will be at 4:00 p.m.

Top harvest counties for opening weekend were Franklin, Howell, and Texas.
Missouri - Preliminary data from the Missouri Department of Conservation (MDC) shows that deer hunters in Missouri harvested 96,131 deer during the opening weekend of the November portion of the fall firearms deer season Nov. 12 and 13. Of the 96,131 deer harvested, 55,753 were antlered bucks, 8,873 were button bucks, and 31,505 were does.
Top harvest counties for opening weekend were Franklin with 2,041 deer checked, Howell with 1,950 and Texas with 1,939.
Last year hunters checked 97,002 deer during the opening weekend of the 2015 November portion of firearms deer season.
The November portion of fall firearms deer seasons continues through Nov. 22. Archery deer season opens again Nov. 23 through Jan. 15, 2016. The late youth portion of firearms deer season runs Nov. 25-27. The antlerless portion of firearms deer season runs Dec. 2-4. Lastly the alternative methods portion will run Dec. 24- Jan. 3, 2017.
Missouri offers some of the best deer hunting in the country and deer hunting is an important part of many Missourians’ lives and family traditions. Deer hunting is also an important economic driver in Missouri and gives a $1 billion annual boost to the state and local economies.
