In singles action, Lexi May beat Creyanna Frazier 6-0, 6-0 in the #2 singles match. Nicole Sells defeated Cameron Wince 6-0, 6-0 in the #3 singles match. The other matches were retired after Dexter secured the needed five points to win.
Monday was also the final home match for Dexter seniors MaKayla Waldner and Kalee Howard.
“MaKayla has grown into a great tennis player from what I have seen since I started coaching three years ago,” commented head tennis coach Kurt Lovelady. “She has to go against some tough opponents that just make her better. She has a desire to be able to compete with some of the great athletes she gets to see in the #1 position.”
“Kalee has come a long way since she started her tennis journey her freshman year,” continued Lovelady. “She has constantly improved from year to year and has been a great help to us on varsity the past two seasons. She matches well with her teammates in doubles to give whoever she is going against a tough match.”
The Dexter Bearcats improved their record to 9-4 with the victory over the Bluejays. They play Notre Dame in the District Semifinal on Tuesday, September 29th at 4 p.m.
“Notre Dame has had our number twice already this season,” stated Lovelady. “They are well coached and play a lot of tennis on their own in the off season. I believe if we are hitting some good serves, playing smart, and capitalizing on their mistakes we could make today a close match.”
