Lady Cats Track Place 2nd at Perryville Invitational

Perryville, Missouri - The Dexter track team traveled to Perryville on Tuesday afternoon.  The Lady Cats placed 2nd out of 10 teams competing.

1st place 300m Hurdles - MaKayla Waldner 45.33

1st place 100m Hurdles - MaKayla Waldner 15.57

1st place Long Jump - MaKayla Waldner 17'7"

2nd place 4x800 - Julia Hahn, Addie Kruse, Emily Ladd, and Rhylan Hills 11:15

3rd place 4x400 - Julia Hahn, Emily Page, Paige Moore, and Taylor Ivy  4:40

3rd place 4x200 - Lexie Barnes, Paige Moore, Emily Page, and Julia Hahn 2:01

3rd place Shot Put - Madelyn Webb  33' 1"

3rd place 300 Hurdles - Zack Cartwright 45.03

Dexter Baseball team Topples Malden 11-1

Dexter, Missouri - The Dexter Bearcats baseball team toppled the Malden Green Wave 11-1 this week.  Riley Mason completed five innings for the win.

"Riley threw a great game," stated Dexter baseball coach Brian Becker.  "He was able to change speeds effectively and kept their hitters off balance.  He also did a great job of fielding his position."

Dexter scored four runs int he bottom of the second, six runs in the third and one run in the fifth inning.  Green Wave managed to record their only run in the top of the second inning.

Mason allowed one run, two hits, two walks, and struck out five.  Jacob Pedigo and Cody Pullum each had a hit and two RBIs.  Jason Jarrell and Riley Mason finished 2 for 3 with one RBI.  Trevor McDonald and Spencer Owens, and Hunter Parrott each added one RBI.

"I thought we did a much better job at the plate," continued Becker.  "Our hitters were much more aggressive on pitches in the zone and that's what we have to do in order to be successful."

Final Score Dexter 11, Malden 1

WP - Riley mason.  Multiple Hits: (D) Jason Jarrell 2-3 and Riley Mason 2-3.

Dexter will be back in action on Monday at Ste. Genevieve.  They Play Oran and Valle Catholic at 1 p.m. and 3 p.m.

Dexter JV Tennis Team Downs Poplar Bluff 5-1

Dexter, Missouri - On a very cold and windy home opener Thursday, the Dexter Junior Varsity tennis team defeated Poplar Bluff 5-1.

"All the JV doubles teams looked comfortable and played well together," commented Dexter tennis coach Kurt Lovelady. "I believe these wins gave them some confidence going into some games this week."

Junior Varsity Doubles

#1  Jacob Crumley/Logan Elder (D) defeated Nathan Smith/Adeesh Mishra (PB) 7--6 (7-5)

#2  Eric Hahn/Nate Gargas (D) dfeated Qui Chi/Scott McGee (PB) 6-0

#3  Matthew Chesser/Blake Bolin (D) defeated Brett Keele/Clayton Mitchell (PB) 6-4

#4  Travis Propst/Thomas Wofford (D) defeated Tanis Sparks/Terry Flanigan (PB) 604

#5  Jackson Winters/Ethan Johnson (PB) defeated Tres Hampton/Tyler Robinson (D) 6-4

#6  Blake Bolin/Matthew Chesser (D) defeated Joshua Ivy/Hunter Ferguson (PB) 6-0

"We could only get in doubles before it got dark," continued Lovelady. 

The Dexter Junior Varsity will host Notre Dame on Tuesday, March 29th.  Match time 4:00 p.m.

Poplar Bluff Edges Dexter in Tennis 5-4

Dexter, Missouri - The Dexter boys tennis team hosted the Poplar Bluff Mules in their first game of the season on Thursday night.

"We had some first match jitters against Poplar Bluff," stated Dexter tennis coach Kurt Lovelady. "Overall I was pleased with how they played."

Poplar Bluff and Dexter were tied 4-4 after eight matches and it came down to Peyton Bradley of Poplar Bluff and Addison Moore of Dexter.  Bradley won 8-7 in a tiebreaker to give the Mules a 5-4 team win.

"Moore was got behind early. When I saw that this was going to be the match that decides it, I told him this at one of the cross overs. He proceeded to get back in it and force a tie-breaker," stated Lovelady.  "The tie breaker was close, but PB had just a little more left in him. I am proud of Addison not giving up though."

Varsity Singles

#1  Humza Ameer Siddiqui (PB) defeated Ethan Flowers (D) 8-4

#2  Zach Potts (D) defeated Isaac Harrison Laseter (PB) 8-6

#3  Josh Kohlbaker (D) defeated Trenton Augustus Nepean (PB) 8-3

#4  Peyton Edgar Bradley (PB) defeated Addison Moore (D) 8-7 (7-5)

#5  Eduardo Martinez Granda (PB) defeated Will Brehmer (D) 8-3

#6  Benjamin David Stewart (PB) defeated Tyler Stevenson 8-2.

"The teams that picked up the two doubles wins looked great," continued Lovelady.  "They played well together. Flowers/Moore played a very good doubles team in Poplar Bluff's #1 and Potts/Kohlbaker set the tone early and dominated their match."

Dexter will be back in action on Tuesday, March 29th when they host Notre Dame.  Match time 4:00 p.m.

Lady Cats Earn All-SEMO Conference Awards

Dexter, Missouri - Three Lady Cats earn a place on the 2016 All-SEMO Conference Team.  Freshman Chaylea Mosby, sophomore Krysten Garrison, and senior Dakota Reynolds were chosen.  Senior Melanie McKuin earned Honorable Mention on the All-SEMO Conference Team.

The Dexter Lady Cats ended their season with a record of 23-6 overall and 5-1 in conference standings.

Athletes were recently honored at the 58th Annual Poplar Bluff Letter Club Basketball Banquet at the Black River Coliseum in Poplar Bluff.  Rick Ray, Southeast Missouri State University's men's basketball coach was the keynote speaker for the event.
