Dexter School Board Approves HVAC Bid at Special Meeting

The Dexter School Board opened bids for the renovation of the HVAC system at the high school during a special meeting on Tuesday, March 28, 2023.  The renovation will mean the old boiler system will be capped and shut off and eventually removed from the property.  The boiler system is estimated to be 27 to 28 years old and has experienced multiple issues over the years.

There were two companies that attended the pre-bid meeting, but only one submitted a bid.  The coniditons of the job ask that the project be completed by the start of the 2023/2024 school year.

Associated submitted a base bid of $964,738.  This would do 24 classrooms, the auditorium and the gym.

The bid also came with alternatives. The first being an automation system that allows the HVAC systems to communicate with each other. This will also allow remote adjustments from off campus to the systems if necessary. The second would include the locker rooms in the renovated system. The total bid with the alternatives is $1.1 million.

Superintendent Amy James requested an approval by the Board of Education be pending the final recommendation of the architect. She said Associated included a letter with the bid saying they would like to provide some clarification and provide some value engineering. James said they based the bid on the current electrical drawings but there has been some confusion in regards to the latest drawings.

The district will use ESSER III funds to pay for the projects. James said there is quite a bit of ESSER III funds left and the district has until the end of the 2023/24 school year to spend it.

The board approved the bid pending the recommendation from the architect.
