2020 DHS Senior Night Featuring Alexa Werneck

Dexter, MO - Dexter High School celebrated winter sports Senior Night on Thursday, February 27, 2020 prior to the start of the boys varsity basketball game against the Cape Central Tigers.

Alexa Werneck is the daughter of Chad and Amber Werneck.

Alexa is a member of the Lady Bearcat Girls Basketball team. She is a two year letterman.

After high school, Alexa plans to attend Southeast Missouri State University - Cape Girardeau and major in Occupational therapy.

Her most memorable moment at DHS is beating Oran, who is state ranked, this year and all the concerts my team and I had on the bus and in the locker rooms!

Dexter School Board Meeting Minutes - February 18, 2020 - New Hires, Resignations and More

Dexter, MO - The Dexter School Board held their regular board meeting on February 18, 2020.  Below are the minutes from that meeting. 

Call to Order/Roll Call/Pledge  The Board President announced the meeting is to begin, ascertains the attendance status of all board members present.  He then leads in the saying of the Pledge of Allegiance. 

Consent Agenda:  The Consent Agenda was approved.

Public Comments:  There were no public comments made.    

Old Business:  

None

New Business: 

A. The board approved the bid for CPC Cleaning to provide custodial service for the district for the next three years.

B. The board approved MCE policy updates 1210, 2640,4871 and Regulation 4871.

C. The board approved budget amendments for the 2019-20 school year.

D. The board approved MSHSAA summer dead period for August 1st thru August 9th.

E. The board approved change orders for the building project.

F. The board approved therapy services contract for the 2020-21 school year.

Discussion Items:

A. The nurse’s report was shared with the board.

B. The principals reports were shared with the board.

C. The superintendent gave his report to the board.

D. The next board meeting was set for March 17, 2020 at 6:00 pm

In Closed Session:

1.  The board approved the following substitutes for the 2019-20 school year:

2.    The board approved resignation effective at the conclusion of the 2019-20 school year.

3. The board approved the internal transfer for the 2020-21 school year.

4. The board approved a employment of Central Elementary teacher for the 2020-21 school year.

5. The board approved the employment of HS teachers for the 2020-21 school year.

Kyle Clay 

Cody Jinkerson and Kyle Clay were hired as Co-Band Directors

6. The board approved the employment of MS teachers for the 2020-21 school year.

Screening Dates Set 2020-2021 Kindergarten Year at Southwest Elementary

Dexter, MO - Southwest Elementary will begin taking Kindergarten screening appointments on February 24th for the 2020-2021 academic school year.

The Screening will be held on Thursday, March 26th and Friday, March 27th from 8:30 a.m. - 2:00 p.m. in the Southwest Elementary gym.

Children must be 5 years of age before July 31, 2020.

Please call the Southwest Office at 614-1015 ext. 1201 to schedule this very important appointment. 

The following mandatory documentation must be provided at the time of screening in order for your child to be enrolled: Birth certificate, shot record (does not have to be up to date) and proof of residency.

The proof of residency MUST be a financial obligation to the address- ex:  Utility bill, water bill, tax statement, mortgage statement, etc.

Dexter Art Students Pieces Selected for Student Show at SEMO River Campus

Dexter, MO - Three Dexter High School art students had a total of six pieces chosen for the SEMO River Campus student show.

Jillian Avery had two honorable mentions and one piece chosen.

Addyson Green placed first in mixed media and has a drawing in the show.  She also received a $1,500 VPN art scholarship.

Madeline Ayers had a painting selected for the student show.
