31st Annual Industrial Appreciation Week

Dexter, Missouri - The Dexter Chamber of Commerce proudly celebrates the 31st Annual Industrial Appreciation Week September 12th - 16th.

Duley Machine Shop is Dexter's oldest industry.  They have been in business for 89 years.  Tyson Foods has been in Dexter for 80 years.

Other industries include: Republic Services (46 years), Specialty Engineering Corp (43 years), Faurecia Emissions Control Technologies (42 years), Stoddard County Sheltered Workshop (40 years), Holden Pallet Company (33 years), U.S. Poly Enterprises, Inc. (31 years), Bootheel Tool & Machinery (28 years), Central Pallet Supply (27 years), Pallet Recycling (23 years), BA Promotions & Marketing, LLC (20 years), Bootheel Recycling (11 years), and Global Fuels (10 years).

On Monday, September 12th Mayor Joe Weber will sign a proclamation at the Chamber of Commerce at 8:00 a.m.  It's also Sweet Treat Day for all employees, sponsored by SoutheastHEALTH of Stoddard County.

Tuesday, September 13th is Cookie Day for all Employees, sponsored by Saint Francis Health Center.

Wednesday, September 14th is the annual 4-Person Golf Scramble at Hidden Trails Country Club.  The cost is $60 per player and has a shotgun start of 1:00 p.m.  Entry fee included green fees, mulligans, and a meal after the Scramble, also car if needed.  To register call (573) 624-7458.

Thursday, September 15th is Donut Day for all employees and the weekend ends with a Breakfast for industry managers, sponsors and invited guests.

Miss Heartland Pageants Set for Sunday

Dexter, Missouri - Miss Heartland Pageants, sponsored by the Dexter High School Choral Department, are set for Sunday, September 11, 2016 at the Dexter High School Auditorium.

Baby Miss Heartland will begin at 1:00 p.m. and pageants will then run consecutively.

Categories are Baby Miss Heartland (0-11 months), Wee Miss Heartland (12-23 months), Tiny Miss Heartland (2 - 4 years), Little Miss Heartland (5-6 years), Petite Miss Heartland (7-9 years), Young Miss Heartland (10-12 years), Junior Miss Heartland (13-15 years), and Miss Heartland (16-20 years).

New This Year: Contestants will be allowed to register at the door the day of the pageant for an increased entry fee of $30 normal fee is $25.  Plan to arrive 30 minutes prior to start of pageant.

Miss Dexter Pageants Slated for Saturday, September 10th

Dexter, Missouri - The Dexter High School Choral Department will host the Miss Dexter Pageants on Saturday, September 10, 2016 in the High School Auditorium.  Contestants must be residents of the Dexter R-XI School District or attend Dexter R-XI Schools.

Wee Miss Dexter (3 years - Pre-K) will begin at 5:00 p.m. with the Little Miss Dexter (Kindergarten - 2nd grade) and Little Mr. Dexter (3 years - 2nd grade) to follow.

Petite Miss Dexter (Grades 3rd, 4th, & 5th) will begin at 5:00 p.m. with Jr. Miss Dexter (Grades 6th, 7th & 8th) and Miss Dexter (9th - 12th) to follow.

Attire is pageant/formal wear for all categories, with the exception of Little Mr. Dexter contestants who may wear 'Sunday Best" or formal wear.

Dexter Altrusa to Host 4th Annual Charity Auction on Saturday

Dexter, Missouri - The Dexter Altrusa Club will host their 4th Annual Charity Auction and you are invited.

On Saturday, September 10, 2016 a Live Auction, a Silent Auction, 50/50 Cash prize raffle, and Last Card Standing Prize. 

Doors will open at 4:00 p.m. at the Dexter Elks Lodge located at 325 North Two Mile Road.  Dinner will be served at 5:30 p.m. and the Live Auction starts at 6:30 p.m.

Proceeds benefit UCAN (United Cancer Assistance Network) and Laundry Baskets of Love. 

Altrusa also asks that you bring a product or two for the Laundry Baskets of Love, soda can pull tabs for Brandon Scott’s annual collection or a new or gently used children’s book for future literacy projects.

“If attendees would be so kind as to bring one or more of the items suggested," stated Tammy Robinson.  "We would be so grateful!"

Items requested for the Laundry Baskets of Love are laundry detergent, toothbrush (singles), chapstick/lip balm, toilet paper, soap (liquid or bar), shampoo, dishwashing liquid, disposable razors, fabric softener, toothpaste, dental floss, paper towels, deodorant, conditioner, body lotion, or air fresheners.

Stoddard County Democrat Club Donates Book

Dexter, Missouri - The Stoddard County Democrat Club donated a book to Keller Public Library in memory of Loretta Dodd.

Dodd was the daughter of longtime Democrat Theeta Cokley.  The club donated "Lyndon Johnson: The American Way".
