
Bloomfield, Missouri – Dedication of the Blue Star Memorial Marker will be held Saturday, May 30th at 10:00 a.m. at the Missouri Veterans Cemetery at Bloomfield, Missouri.
Joseph J. Frank, a Vietnam War veteran, will be the keynote speaker. Frank serves as Past National Commander of the Legion, a member of the board of directors of the American Legion Child Welfare Foundation and a member of American Legion Post 162.
The Blue Star Memorial Marker projects began in 1945 by the National Council of Garden Clubs, and now have over 7,000 markers placed at locations nationwide. The name “Blue Star” refers to the flag with a blue star that was displayed in the homes and businesses denoting that a family member was serving in the military.
Members of the Molly French Garden Club of Charleston, Missouri, the Cape Girardeau Council of Garden Clubs and the Poplar Bluff Garden Club have partnered with the Federation of Garden Clubs of Missouri along with the Veterans Cemetery have erected the marker at Bloomfield honoring all United States servicemen and women who have served, are serving or will serve in the future.
The public is encouraged to attend this dedication ceremony and the reception that will follow. The cemetery is located next to the Stars and Stripes Museum in Bloomfield.
