
Sherman Loyd Carter, son of the late Joseph Loyd Carter and Edith Cates Carter was born in Ellsinore, Missouri on January 28, 1943 and departed this life at John J. Pershing VA Medical Center in Poplar Bluff, Missouri on December 6, 2015 at the age of 72.
Mr. Carter served his country in the United States Marine Corps during the Vietnam War, he was the Owner and Operator of Carter’s Wholesale Furniture of Bernie, Missouri, was of Baptist Faith and a resident of Bernie.
He was united in marriage to Judy Smiley in Kennett, Missouri on December 23, 1962. Mrs. Carter survives in their home in Bernie.
Other survivors include one son, Bryan Carter of Hariviell, Missouri; by one daughter, Crystal Thomas of Powe, Missouri; by one brother, Ivan Willis Carter of Bonne Terre, Missouri; by one sister, Leatha McElvoy of Poplar Bluff, Missouri; by nine grandchildren, Whittney Carter, Chelsea Cornwell, Mackenzie Young, James Carter, Chloe Carter, Ryan Carter, Javin Thomas, Jadin Thomas and Jace Thomas; also by other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death other than by his parents, by one son, Darrin Carter; by one daughter, Tracie Carter Young; by one brother, Freeman Luke Carter; by three sisters, Naomi Dockins, Verna Roberts and Brenda Inis Collins.
Friends may call at Rainey-Mathis Funeral Home in Bernie, Missouri on Thursday Evening, December 10, 2015 from 5:00 P.M. until 8:00 P.M.
Funeral services will be conducted in the Rainey-Mathis Funeral Chapel in Bernie on Friday, December 11, 2015 at 12:00 Noon.
Interment will follow in the Bernie Cemetery with Full Military Honors. Rainey-Mathis Funeral Home in charge of all arrangements.
