DPR Little League Season Ends

The 2012 Little League Baseball and Softball seasons came to a close last week, wrapping up another summer of fun and excitement for area youth.

Players, parents, and fans had to deal with high temperatures throughout the week, but it wasn't enough to stifle the spirit of the youngsters on the diamonds of the DPR Complex.

Area youth will now turn to Little League Football and Volleyball in the fall; sign-up dates will be published when they become available.

Youth Football Camp Scheduled for July
Organizers of the Dexter Youth Football Camp announced today the details of the upcoming football camp here in Dexter.  The three day event will begin on Monday, July 16 and run for three nights until Wednesday, July 18.  Each night, the event will begin at 6 p.m. and will end at 8:16  each night.

With fall sports season just a little over 60 days away, excitement is building for all the local football leagues that exist in the Dexter area.  Of course, the Bearcat's football season is on everyone's mind as the 'Cats rebuild from an incredible 2011 season.  In addition, the Dexter Park and Recreation department hosts a long running little league football program.  The addition of the youth flag football program the past two years has also allowed the grade school age youth to become involved with this great sport.

The intentions of the organizers is to offer an event providing the opportunity for 3rd through 6th graders to enjoy a summer football camp.  Complete with many local coaches, college and high school athletes , the young players will perform various drills and learn appropriate techniques used by football players.

Registration fee for this three-day camp will be $20 per athlete.  Each camper will receive an event t-shirt along with three nights of instruction and football fun.

Registration has begun today.  Those interested in joining the group for this camp are asked to sign up early.  You will find a copy of the sign up form in this article and on the Facebook Event page for the ShowMe Times.  Organizers ask that you turn in your registration by Friday, July 13, 2012.  These can be dropped off at the Dexter Park and Recreation office.  You may also bring your registration the day of the event along with your sign up fee.  Please make some attempt to notify the group that you will be participating by emailing your confirmation to DFBALLCAMP@GMAIL.COM.


Organizers of the event are Loyd Rice, Brett Dorton, Darrin Propst, Alan Hedrick and Sean Vanslyke.  These individuals can be contacted through the email above.

Terry Woods Memorial Set For Saturday

The second annual Terry Woods Memorial Golf Tournament has been announced for this Saturday (June 30) at Hidden Trails Country Club on Dexter.

The one-day tournament carries a $300 entry fee for a four-person team, or a $75 fee for an individual golfer.

Entry will be limited to 36 teams on a first-come, first-serve basis, with prizes awarded in each flight, with flights divided by skill level.

Football 'Cats Prepare For Contact Camp
With summer upon us, the Dexter Bearcats are returning to the gridiron to prepare for the upcoming season. The 'Cats participated in a three-day minicamp this week to brush up on their skills before the annual Southeast Missouri Coaches Association Contact Camp, held this Thursday and Friday (June 21-22) at Sikeston High School.
