No. 5 - The Puxico Indians

The Indians of Puxico High School picked up the No. 5 seed in the 2012 SCAA Tournament with their 9-6 (2-2) record.

The Indians have two wins in SCAA Contests this season, including a 77-58 decision against the Richland Rebels in the opening round of the Bloomfield Christmas Tournament, and a 85-65 win on Friday night to crash Bernie’s homecoming.

The Advance Hornets beat the Indians with a 99-79 final, while the Dexter Bearcats picked up a 10 point victory last week.

The Indians sport a high-powered offense that averages over 80 points a game and has five players averaging double-figures.

“I refer to my system as Fast & Furious,” head coach Tim Smith said. “We throw the ball deep, run like heck to catch it, and will shoot from the concession stand.”

“The boys are starting to come together as a team and run the system,” he added.

Smith pointed out the highly competitive nature of the SCAA Tournament in relation to his team’s seed.

“Puxico doesn’t get the much respect in the seed meetings. If you want respect in this conference, you have to go down there and win,” Smith said. “We are in it to win it.”

The JV Indians picked up the No. 3 seed in their bracket; both the JV and Varsity squads will open the tournament with the Bloomfield Wildcats.

The Tribe won’t be in action until Tuesday; the JV squad tips at 5:30, while the Varsity will close out the second day of the tournament in the 8:30 p.m. contest.
