Stoddard County, MO - The National Weather Service in Paducah, Kentucky has issued a Special Weather Statement for Stoddard County.

...WINTRY PRECIPITATION AND HEAVY RAIN POSSIBLE

.... RAIN AND SNOW WILL SPREAD INTO THE AREA SUNDAY AFTERNOON WITH SOME MINOR SNOW ACCUMULATIONS ALONG THE I-64 CORRIDOR IN SOUTHERN ILLINOIS. SUNDAY NIGHT THE PRECIPITATION WILL CHANGE OVER TO FREEZING RAIN NORTH OF A LINE FROM VAN BUREN MISSOURI TO MARION ILLINOIS, TO PRINCETON INDIANA. SOUTH OF THAT LINE IT WILL BE RAIN WITH A FEW RUMBLES OF THUNDER. TEMPERATURES, HOWEVER, WILL WARM DURING THE NIGHT AND CHANGE THE FREEZING RAIN TO JUST RAIN EARLY MONDAY MORNING ACROSS THE ENTIRE AREA. COLD AIR RETURNS MONDAY NIGHT BRINGING A CHANCE OF FREEZING RAIN AND SNOW AS THE SYSTEM DEPARTS THE AREA. MONDAY NIGHT ACCUMULATIONS OF SNOW AND ICE ARE EXPECTED TO BE MINOR AT THIS POINT. HEAVY RAINFALL IS LIKELY ALONG A LINE FROM MAYFIELD KENTUCKY TO CENTRAL CITY KENTUCKY SUNDAY NIGHT AND MONDAY. AMOUNTS OF 2 INCHES ARE POSSIBLE IN THAT AREA BEFORE THE RAIN ENDS EARLY TUESDAY MORNING. SOME TRAVEL ISSUES ARE POSSIBLE BOTH SUNDAY AND MONDAY NIGHTS ACROSS THE AREA.

WIND GUSTS ARE EXPECTED TO BE THE HIGHEST STARTING AROUND MIDNIGHT TONIGHT AND LAST UNTIL MID AFTERNOON WEDNESDAY.

* WINDS...SUSTAINED WINDS OF 20 TO 30 MPH WITH GUSTS TO AROUND 40 MPH.

* IMPACTS...DRIVERS OF HIGH PROFILE VEHICLES SHOULD USE CAUTION. LOOSE OBJECTS LEFT OUTDOORS WILL LIKELY BE TOSSED AROUND.

THESE WIND GUSTS MAY DOWN A FEW TREE BRANCHES OR LOOSELY ROOTED SMALL TREES. PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...

...BITTER COLD WIND CHILLS THIS MORNING ALONG WITH SLICK ROADS

... YESTERDAY'S SNOW COMBINED WITH BITTER COLD EARLY TODAY MEANS MANY ROADS ACROSS THE REGION WILL REMAIN SLICK AND HAZARDOUS FOR THE MORNING COMMUTE.

THERE HAVE BEEN NUMEROUS CLOSINGS AND EVENT CANCELLATIONS ACROSS THE AREA.

SOME IMPROVEMENT IS EXPECTED THROUGH THE DAY. DESPITE SUB FREEZING TEMPERATURES, SUNSHINE AND TREATMENT ON SOME ROADS WILL HELP MELT AND, OR EVAPORATE THE SNOW AND ICE. WIND CHILLS THIS MORNING WILL RANGE FROM THE SINGLE DIGITS TO JUST BELOW ZERO. BY AFTERNOON, THE WINDS WILL DIMINISH.

HOWEVER, HIGHS WILL ONLY REACH THE LOWER TO UPPER 20S, WITH WIND CHILLS STILL 10 TO 20 DEGREES.

* IMPACTS...PLAN ON SCATTERED SLIPPERY ROAD CONDITIONS.

THE HAZARDOUS CONDITIONS COULD IMPACT THE EVENING COMMUTE.

* ADDITIONAL DETAILS...SNOW ACCUMULATION MAY BE HIGHER ON GRASSY AND ELEVATED SURFACES, AND LOWER ON AREA ROADS. HOWEVER SLICK SPOTS MAY DEVELOP AS TEMPERATURES RAPIDLY FALL. PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS... SLOW DOWN AND USE CAUTION WHILE TRAVELING.

... RAIN IS FORECAST TO CHANGE TO SNOW ON VETERAN'S DAY.

THE CHANGE OVER WILL BE IN THE EARLY TO MID AFTERNOON ACROSS SOUTHEAST MISSOURI, SOUTHERN ILLINOIS AND SOUTHWEST INDIANA, AND BY LATE AFTERNOON INTO THE EVENING ACROSS WESTERN KENTUCKY.

MINOR ACCUMULATIONS OF SNOW UP TO 1 INCH WILL BE POSSIBLE, MAINLY ON GRASSY AND ELEVATED SURFACES.

HOW MUCH ACCUMULATES WILL DEPEND ON GROUND AND PAVEMENT TEMPERATURES ONCE THE SNOW BEGINS FALLING. FLASH FREEZING ON AREAS ROADS IS A CONCERN AS WELL, ESPECIALLY FROM AROUND SUNSET ON INTO THE EVENING, AS TEMPERATURES FALL RAPIDLY BELOW THE FREEZING MARK AND BLUSTERY WINDS GUST FROM 20 TO 30 MPH.

AFTER THE WINTRY PRECIPITATION MOVES OUT, BITTERLY COLD AIR WILL FOLLOW.

GUSTY NORTH WINDS 10 TO 20 MPH WITH GUSTS TO 30 MPH WILL DRIVE WIND CHILL TEMPERATURES DOWN INTO THE SINGLE DIGITS LATE MONDAY NIGHT AND INTO THE TUESDAY MORNING COMMUTE.

THIS WILL BE UNSEASONABLY COLD FOR MID NOVEMBER.

NORMAL LOW TEMPERATURES FOR THIS TIME OF YEAR ARE NEAR 40 DEGREES.
