Stoddard County, Missouri - The National Weather Service in Paducah, Kentucky has issued a SPECIAL WEATHER STATEMENT UNTIL 6:30PM CDT WED!!

...HEAT INDEX VALUES BETWEEN 103 AND 107 DEGREES POSSIBLE IN SOME AREAS OF SOUTHERN ILLINOIS, SOUTHWEST INDIANA, AND SOUTHEAST MISSOURI THROUGH 6 PM CDT

... MUCH HIGHER MOISTURE HAS MOVED INTO THE QUAD STATE REGION THIS AFTERNOON. THIS MOISTURE, COMBINED WITH TEMPERATURES IN THE UPPER 80S AND LOWER 90S, IS PRODUCING HEAT INDEX VALUES IN THE 103 TO 107 DEGREE RANGE IN A FEW LOCATIONS.

IF YOU LIVE ALONG OR NEAR INTERSTATE 64 IN SOUTHERN ILLINOIS AND SOUTHWEST INDIANA, AND ALONG INTERSTATE 55 IN SOUTHEAST MISSOURI, YOU MAY EXPERIENCE HEAT INDEX READINGS IN THE 103 TO 107 DEGREE RANGE FOR THE REST OF THIS AFTERNOON.

BE SURE TO DRINK PLENTY OF WATER, TAKE FREQUENT REST BREAKS IN THE SHADE OR AIR CONDITIONED SHELTER. GET OUT OF THE HEAT, IF YOU ARE EXPERIENCING HEALTH ISSUES. BE WATCHFUL FOR THOSE ESPECIALLY IMPACTED BY THE HEAT. YOUNG CHILDREN, THE ELDERLY, PERSONS WITH SERIOUS HEALTH ISSUES, AND PETS ARE ESPECIALLY SUSCEPTIBLE TO THE HEAT DURING THIS TIME OF YEAR. DO NOT LEAVE YOUNG CHILDREN OR PETS IN CARS WITH CLOSED WINDOWS...THIS COULD BECOME DEADLY SITUATION IN A SHORT PERIOD OF TIME. HEAT INDEX VALUES SHOULD GRADUALLY FALL THROUGH THE EVENING.

...HEAT INDEX VALUES TO HOVER NEAR 100 DEGREES WEDNESDAY AND THURSDAY AFTERNOON.

.. INCREASING HUMIDITY NEAR 50 PERCENT, COMBINED WITH TEMPERATURES IN THE LOWER TO MIDDLE 90S, WILL PRODUCE HEAT INDEX VALUES BETWEEN 100 AND 103 DEGREES WEDNESDAY AND THURSDAY AFTERNOON. FOR THOSE PERSONS THAT MUST WORK OUTDOORS, BE SURE TO KEEP HYDRATED WITH WATER AND TAKE FREQUENT BREAKS IN THE SHADE OR AN AIR-CONDITIONED SHELTER.

THIS WILL HELP LESSEN THE IMPACT ON YOUR HEALTH DURING PROLONGED EXPOSURE TO THE HEAT. KEEP A CLOSE EYE ON CHILDREN, PERSONS WITH SERIOUS HEALTH CONDITIONS, AND PETS. THEY CAN BE ESPECIALLY SUSCEPTIBLE TO THE SUMMER HEAT.

NEVER LEAVE A CHILD OR PET IN A CAR UNATTENDED AND WITH THE WINDOWS CLOSED WITHOUT AIR-CONDITIONING,THIS CAN BE DEADLY FOR THEM IN A VERY SHORT TIME.

ALTHOUGH RAIN CHANCES AND MORE CLOUD COVER IS EXPECTED TO RETURN ON THURSDAY, HEAT INDEX VALUES WILL ONCE AGAIN RISE TO AROUND 100 DEGREES OUTSIDE RAIN AREAS. SOME RELIEF FROM THE HEAT IS EXPECTED ON FRIDAY, WITH TEMPERATURES EXPECTED TO DROP BACK INTO THE 80S WITH A CHANCE OF RAIN.

HEAT INDEX VALUES ON TRACK TO REACH NEAR 100 DEGREES...

HIGH PRESSURE ALOFT WILL PRODUCE ANOTHER SWELTERING HOT AND HUMID AFTERNOON. TEMPERATURES ARE STILL ON TRACK TO CLIMB INTO THE LOWER HALF OF THE 90S FOR HIGHS THIS AFTERNOON.

THEY WILL COMBINE WITH HIGH HUMIDITY LEVELS TO PUSH HEAT INDEX VALUES UP TO NEAR THE CENTURY MARK. T

HESE HEAT INDICES MAY WELL REMAIN AT OR CLOSE TO 100 DEGREES FOR SEVERAL HOURS THIS AFTERNOON AND EARLY EVENING, BEFORE FINALLY COOLING OFF AFTER 6 PM. THOSE WORKING OR PLAYING OUTDOORS TODAY SHOULD MAKE SURE TO HAVE PLENTY OF WATER ON HAND.
