Edna Scates
Edna Scates, daughter of the late Albert E. Choat and Essie Pullum Choat, was born on January 23, 1921 in Butler County and departed this life in the Poplar Bluff Regional Medical Center on February 2, 2011 at the age of 90.

Mrs. Scates was a member of the United Methodist Church-Hobbs Chapel near Dudley, a home-maker and resident of Poplar Bluff.

She was united in marriage to Thomas E. Scates on July 15, 1939 at Poplar Bluff. Mr. Scates preceded her in death on September 3, 2000.

Survivors include one son and daughter-in-law, Gary and LeVeda Scates of Dexter: by three daughters and son-in-laws, Doris and Paul Yates of Dudley, Betty and Leo Hayes of Wappapello, Patty and Jerry Grable of Poplar Bluff: by three sisters, Vivian Merideth and Glenda Propst both of Bloomfield and Mary Brown of Texas: by nine grandchildren, sixteen great-grandchildren and eight great-great-grandchildren.

Besides her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by three brothers, Charles Choat, Howard Choat and Isaac Choat: by one sister, Jean Mattingly.

Friends may call at the Rainey-Mathis Funeral Home in Dexter from 5:00 until 8:00 P. m., Thursday, February 3, 2011. Funeral services will be conducted at 1:00 P. M., Friday, February 4, 2011 in the Rainey-Mathis Funeral Chapel with Rev. Kenneth Lambert officiating. Interment will follow in the Dudley Cemetery.
