The mission and goal of our event is to present a successful and entertaining Veterans Day Parade as a holiday gift to the citizens of Dexter, Missouri, Stoddard County, and beyond.

Calling All Participants: There are two ways to get involved in the Parade and show your support.

Sign your organization or group up to march in the Veterans Day Parade! You don't need to be a Veteran or in a Veteran-related organization to march, you just have to be a Military/Veteran supporter. This will be a Military/Veteran themed parade. Our goal is to make this the biggest Veterans Day Parade ever!

Show your support from the side-lines. We're asking the Dexter community to line the streets and cheer on local Veterans. It's a great opportunity for the whole family and a great parade to watch.

"The military has always had a special place in the heart, throughout the country and especially here in Dexter."

Join the Rotary at the Fair for National Cheeseburger Day

Dexter, Missouri - Today, September 18th is National Cheeseburger Day.

To celebrate National Cheeseburger Day, gather some friends together, head out to the Stoddard County Fair and order a delicious Cheeseburger from the Dexter Rotary Club!

Bill Boone from Southern Bank will be glad to serve you a fresh hot CHEESEBURGER from the grill!

There are many theories to the beginning of the cheeseburger dating back to the 1920s.  One story suggests that Lionel Sternberger is reputed to have invented the cheeseburger in 1926 while working at his father’s Pasadena, California sandwich shop, “The Rite Spot”.  During an experiment, he dropped a slice of American cheese on a sizzling hamburger.

There are other claims the invention of the cheeseburger:

A cheeseburger appeared on a 1928 menu at O’Dell’s, a Los Angeles restaurant, which listed a cheeseburger, smothered with chili. for 25 cents.

Kaelin’s Restaurant – Louisville, Kentucky says it invented the cheeseburger in 1934.

1935 – A trademark for the name “cheeseburger” was awarded to Louis Ballast of the Humpty Dumpty Drive-In in Denver, Colorado.

According to it’s archives, Gus Belt, founder of Steak n’ Shake, applied for a trademark on the word “cheeseburger” in the 1930s.

Happy Cheeseburger Day!  We'll see you at the Fair!
