Veterans Day Ceremony Planned at MO State Veterans Cemetery in Bloomfield

Bloomfield, Missouri - The Missouri State Veterans Cemetery will host a Veterans Day event on Monday, November 11, 2019 at 1:00 p.m.

The Veterans Cemetery is located at 17357 Stars and Stripes Way in Bloomfield.

Army and U.S. Air Force Major John P. Myers will be the guest speaker.  He is currently assigned as IMA to the Commander, 375 Communications Squadron, Scott Air Force Base, Illinois.

The POW/MIA Table Ceremony will also be performed.

The public is invited to attend and honor our Veterans.

Memorial Day Program Set at Bloomfield Veterans Cemetery

Bloomfield, Missouri - The annual Memorial Day ceremony will be held at 1:00 p.m. at the Missouri State Veterans Cemetery in Bloomfield on Monday, May 27, 2019.

The keynote speaker will be Lieutenant Colonel Bob Thrower, U.S. Army Ret.   He is a Dexter Native who was commissioned into the US Army in 1987.  he spent 20 years on active duty, retiring at the rank of Lieutenant Colonel in 2008.  He also spent two years Missouri Army National Guard from 1984-1986.  he has spent the majority of his career as a signal officer, assignments included 1st Infantry Division,  Fort Riley Kansas; 22d Signal Brigade, Germany; Defense Special Weapons Agency, Alexandria, VA; 440th Signal Battalion, Germany; Command and General Staff College, Ft. Leavenworth, KS.  Deployments included Desert storm; Task Force Eagle, Implementation Force, Bosnia and Herzegovina; OIF-

Bob has a Bachelors Degree from Southeast Missouri State University, a Masters from Central Michigan University and is a graduate of the Command and General Staff College.

The POW/MIA Table Ceremony which honors soldiers that were prisoners of war or missing in action from each branch of the U.S. Military will also be presented.  Gary Kitchen will narrate. Representing the five armed forces are James Adams SFC USA RET US ARMY, Tom Love CAPT USMC US MARINE CORPS, Carl Bess P01USN RET US NAVY, John P. Myers MAJOR USAF US AIR FORCE,  AND Justin W. Baker CW04 USCG RET US COAST GUARD.

The Stoddard County Honor Guard will provide the firing of the volley for the Memorial Service.

Families and friends of those buried at the cemetery are invited to attend, as well as members of the general public.  For more information, contact the cemetery office at (573) 568-3871.

2019 Bloomfield Heritage Days Set for April 18th, 19th and 20th
Encampment rained out - Egg Hunt moved to Saturday, at NOON!

Bloomfield, Missouri - Bloomfield Heritage Days, sponsored by the Bloomfield Chamber of Commerce and the Bloomfield Lion's Club, will be held on Thursday, April 18th, Friday, April 19th and Saturday, April 20th at the Bloomfield City Park. It’s about celebrating our community and providing a welcoming festival in the spring!

Step back in time and enjoy the old fashioned living historical encampment from the early 1800s.  Special activities are planned such as the Candy Cannon and kids games, live turtles and Chomper, the Sulcata Tortoise will be on hand to celebrate.

Smell the aroma of fresh kettle corn, indulge your taste buds with homemade fried pies, chicken & dumplings, French onion soup. ham & beans and much more.  Primitive traders will be selling their hand crafted leather and other goods.

Children of all ages will enjoy the infamous Candy Cannon and have fun at the hands-on learning center where they can pet live turtles, feel the furs of buffalo, skunk, possum, raccoon and many more Missouri animals.  They can throw a hawk or shoot a longbow or make rag dolls.

The Easter Egg Hunt will be on Friday at 10 a.m. with photos with the Easter Bunny!

Modern crafters will be set up on Saturday only along with other businesses as well as antiques and yard sale items.

There will also be entertainment on Friday and Saturday as well as a Dog Show. 

The Dog Show will have three categories: Best Trick (1 minutes limit), Dog Look-Alike and Friendliest Dog!  All proceeds will go to build the Dexter Dog Park for everyone to enjoy! It will be at 2 p.m. on Saturday, April 20th.

Pioneers will camp on Thursday morning after 9 a.m. and leave on Saturday evening.  Education day will be Thursday for students to come out and enjoy some with the historical encampment.

Bloomfield, Missouri - It's that time of the year when Ken Kingree will be honored with the annual Captain Ken's Trivia Night! 

On Friday, March 8, 2019 the 3rd annual trivia night will be held at the Crowley Ridge Country Club/Pixley's Place.

Pixley’s Place will offer four items for people to eat that night which will make it a lot easier for them and you will get your orders faster.

She will have a sampler platter for $10.00, loaded potato skins for $10.00, loaded homemade chips for $9.00 and plain homemade chips for $4.00.

Elderland Holiday Pie SPIN Club
Do you have a child wanting to learn how to bake pies?

If so, join us in making, baking, and eating holiday pies.

Participants will learn how to make and bake pies for the upcoming holidays.

On the last day, their skills will be put to the test by how well their pies taste by the customers of Elderland Restaurant.

This event is for ages 8-18. It will be hosted after school on December 6th, 13th, and 20th from 4 - 6 pm at Elderland Restaurant in Bloomfield.

The cost is $20 for non-members, which includes their 4-H membership and $10 if they are currently enrolled as a 4-H member.
