Sophia E. Deason

Sophia E. Deason, daughter of the late Oscar and Mary Elizabeth Jarrell Masterson, was born near Dexter, Missouri, on March 29, 1917, and passed away at the Crowley Ridge Care Center in Dexter, Missouri on July 11, 2012, at the age of 95 years, 3 months, and 12 days.

Mrs. Deason had lived in Dexter, Missouri all of her life. She had attended the New Bethel General Baptist Church in Dexter and had worked for over 30 years at the Elders Manufacturing Company.

On July 3, 1937, she was married to Frank Leslie Deason in Dexter, Missouri. He preceded her in death on October 6, 1976.

Surviving are one grandson and wife, Michael & Zina Mitchell of Dexter, Missouri; one granddaughter, Sharon Darby of Dexter, Missouri; four great grandchildren, Shaun Phillips & Christopher Phillips both of Bloomfield, Missouri, Tiffany Mitchell & Brandon Mitchell both of Dexter, Missouri; four great great grandchildren; one sister and husband, Mary & Tom Fairchild of Dexter, Missouri; one sister in law and husband, Carolyn & William Tucker of Dexter, Missouri. Many nieces, nephews, other family and friends also survive her.

She was preceded in death by her daughter, Martha Elizabeth Mitchell on January 7, 2007, son in law, C. W. Mitchell, three brothers, James, Louis and Adam Masterson; and four sisters, Nancy & Melissa Masterson, Mae Ridenour and Ella Casey.

Visitation will be held on Thursday, July 12, 2012, from 5:00 to 8:00 pm at the Watkins & Sons Funeral Home in Dexter, Missouri.

Funeral Services will be held on Friday, July 13, 2012, at 11:00 am at the Watkins & Sons Chapel in Dexter, Missouri with the Rev. Dean Williams of Dexter, Missouri officiating.

Interment will be in the Sadlers Chapel Cemetery near Dexter, Missouri with Watkins & Sons Funeral Service of Dexter in charge of arrangements.

Joanne O. Jarrell, daughter of the late Otto and Cora O. Heflin Fletcher, was born in Poplar Bluff, Missouri on March 11, 1942, and passed away at her home near Bloomfield, Missouri on July 5, 2012, at the age of 70 years, 3 months and 24 days.

She had lived in the Bloomfield, Missouri area most of her life.

On April 15, 1960, she was married to Billy G. Jarrell in Bloomfield, Missouri. Surviving are two sons, Tony Gene Jarrell of Poplar Bluff, Missouri, Billy Joe Jarrell of Bloomfield, Missouri; one daughter, Penny L. Johnson of Bloomfield, Missouri; eight grandchildren; two great grandchildren; one brother, Dennis Fletcher of Dexter, Missouri. Other relatives and friends also survive.

Visitation will be held Monday, July 9, 2012, after 10:00 a.m. at the Watkins & Sons Funeral Home in Dexter, Missouri.

Funeral services will be held on Monday, July 9, 2012, at 12:00 p.m. at the Watkins & Sons Chapel in Dexter, Missouri with the Rev. Don Cox of Poplar Bluff, Missouri officiating.

Interment will be in the Hagy Cemetery in Dexter, Missouri with Watkins & Sons Funeral Service of Dexter, Missouri in charge of arrangements.

Arthur J. "A.J." Miller, son of the late Sereno W. and Catherine Halter Miller, was born in New Hamburg, Missouri on February 29, 1928, and passed away at the Lutheran Home in Cape Girardeau on July 5, 2012, at the age of 84 years.

He had grown up in Chaffee, and had lived in California, Washington State and Chicago, Illinois before moving to Bloomfield, 12 years ago. He had worked as an electrical technician with Motorola. He was a member of the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Dexter. He enjoyed racing remote control boats, fishing and model trains. He served in the U. S. Army, serving in Italy after WWII and in Korea.

In October of 1970, he was married to Helen Fox in Chicago, Illinois. She preceded him in death on February 22, 2010.

Surviving are two stepsons, Michael Lee Hasler of San Antonio, Texas, Kenneth Lynn Hasler of Oswego, Illinois; one stepdaughter, Linda Handel of Hendersonville, North Carolina; four step grandchildren; five step great grandchildren; one brother, James Miller of Seattle, Washington; one sister, Betty Enderle of Kelso, Missouri. Other family and friends also survive.

He was preceded in death by one brother, Leon W. Miller.

Visitation will be held on Sunday, July 8, 2012, from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. at Watkins and Sons Funeral Home in Dexter. A Rosary Service will be held at 2 p.m. at the funeral home.

Funeral Mass will be held at 9:30 a.m. on Monday, July 9, 2012, at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Dexter, with the Rev. David Dohogne of Dexter, officiating.

Interment will follow at the Missouri Veteran's Cemetery in Bloomfield, with Watkins and Sons Funeral Service of Dexter in charge of arrangements.

Delbert "Del" Cahow, son of the late Casper Carl and Tersey Pearl Hester Cahow, was born in Little Prairie near Caruthersville, Missouri on October 14, 1943, and passed away at the St. Francis Medical Center in Cape Girardeau on July 3, 2012, at the age of 68.


He had lived most of his life in Dexter until moving to Advance in 2005. He had worked in maintenance for the Dexter Public Schools for many years before his retirement. He attended the Faith Baptist Church in Advance.


On July 28, 1978 he was married to Barbara C. Hunsaker in Dexter. She preceded him in death on March 27, 1997. On November 7, 2000, he was married to Laura Cahow in Dexter.


Surviving are his wife, Laura Cahow of Advance, Missouri; two sons, Scott Foster of Fisk, Missouri, Sam Cahow of Los Banos, California; one daughter, Ramona Wright of Los Banos, California; one step-son, Rusty Stearns of Advance, Missouri; one stepdaughter, Bobbi Jo Becker of Advance, Missouri; eight grandchildren and one great grandchild. Other family and friends also survive.

He was preceded in death by two sons, David Cahow on Feb. 14, 1994, John D. Cahow on Sept. 20, 1998; and six siblings, Samuel, William Thomas, Geneva, Carl Jr., Paul Warren and Dennis.


Visitation will be held on Friday, July 6, 2012, from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Watkins and Sons Funeral Home in Dexter.


Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, July 7, 2012, at the Watkins and Sons Chapel in Dexter,  with the Rev. Matthew Price of Ellsinore officiating.

Interment will follow at the Dexter Cemetery with Watkins and Sons Funeral Service of Dexter in charge of arrangements.

Melissa Marie Bateman, daughter of Alfred Bert and Norma Jean Mitchell Lawhorn, was born at Fort Hood, Texas on December 20, 1984, and passed away at her home in Dexter, Missouri on July 4, 2012, at the age of 27.

She had grown up in Mattoon, Illinois and moved to Dexter ten years ago. She attended the Lighthouse Christian Center in Dexter.

On April 17, 2012, she was married to Ramey Bateman.

Surviving are her parents, Alfred Bert and Norma Jean Lawhorn of Dexter; one son, Gage Leedom of Dexter; two daughters, Kierstyn Leedom and Aylissa Simmons both of Dexter; one brother, Michael Lawhorn of Mattoon, Illinois; one sister, Christina Lawhorn of Dexter. Other relatives and friends also survive.

Visitation will be held on Saturday, July 7, 2012 st 11 AM at the Watkins and Sons Funeral Home in Dexter.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, July 7, 2012, at 1 p.m., at the Watkins and Sons Chapel in Dexter with Rev. Kenneth Biggs of Dexter, officiating.
