Bulah Francoy Fortner
Bulah Francoy Fortner of Risco died Sunday, April 24, 2011 at her home at the age of 95.

Mrs. Fortner was born September 19, 1915 in Springhill, Arkansas, the daughter of John Irvin Robinson and Adah Florence Benton Robinson. She was a graduate of the University of Central Arkansas in Conway, Arkansas. She was a member of the Risco Rural Independent Club and taught school at Clarkton and Gideon and for 22 years at Risco. She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Risco.

Mrs. Fortner was married to Willie Fortner on June 7, 1941 at Morrilton, Arkansas. Mr. Fortner preceded her in death on July 27, 1994.

She is survived by one son and daughter-in-law, Bill and Joyce Fortner of Risco; by one daughter and son-in-law, Mary and Brent Shinal of Rogers, Arkansas; by seven grandchildren - Angie Miller of Parma, Cheri Harris of Jackson, Billy Fortner of Tallapoosa, Mark Fortner of Tallapoosa, Betsy Mays of Poplar Bluff, Matthew Smith of Springdale, Arkansas, and Jared Smith of Ava; by one daughter-in-law, Alice Fortner of Parma; and by 15 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in by one son, Royce Fortner; by four sisters, Jonnie Tyler, Doris Sims, Daphne Mills and Mary Robinson; by two brothers, Sid Robinson and Newt Robinson.

Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m., Tuesday, April 26, 2011 at the First Baptist Church in Risco with the Rev. Lewis Scott officiating. Interment will be at Memorial Park Cemetery in Malden with her grandsons serving as pallbearers.

Doris Jean Patton
Doris Jean Patton of Malden died Sunday, April 24, 2011 at Missouri Southern Healthcare in Dexter, Missouri, at the age of 73.

Mrs. Patton was born January 16, 1938 at Risco, Missouri, the daughter of the late George Woodrow Knight and Susie Male Rodgers. She was of the General Baptist faith and was retired from the Brown Shoe Company.

Mrs. Patton was married to J.M. Patton in 1978. Mr. Patton preceded her in death on April 24, 2005.

She is survived by three daughters, Pamela (Pam) Norman of Dudley; Debbie Smith of Poplar Bluff; and Linda Stanley and husband Jeff of Dexter; by one brother, Clayton Knight of Risco; five grandchildren, Stacia Shipman of Jackson, Clinton Lawrence of Dudley, Amanda Adams of Parma, Jentri Kasinger of Malden and Colby Denson of Jonesboro, Ark.; and by nine great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by one son, Jimmy Adams; by one sister, Patsy White, and one brother, Larry Knight.

Friends may call after 10 a.m., Thursday, April 28, 2011 at the Bradshaw Funeral Home in Malden. Funeral services will follow at 12 p.m., Thursday, April 28 at the Bradshaw Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Mark Powell officiating. Interment will follow at the Rosewood Cemetery in Malden.

Maxine Jewett, daughter of the late Felix Hampton and Fletie Utley Hampton was born on December 10, 1919 in Malden, Missouri and went to be with the Lord on April 24, 2011 at her residence in Dexter at the age of 91.

Mrs. Jewett was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Dexter where she served with the United Methodist Women’s and Christian Women United groups. Maxine worked as a checker for Big Star and IGA for a number of years. She was a current resident of Dexter and formerly lived in Parma and Bernie for a number of years.

She was united in marriage to Walter Jewett on November 16, 1941 in Malden. Mr. Jewett preceded her in death on November 28, 1998.

She is survived by one daughter, Barbara Lillard of Dexter, by one brother, Floyd Hampton of Malden; by four grandchildren, Carolyn Patton of Florida, Cynthia Patton Muller and husband Jimmy of Long Island, New York, John J. Patton III and wife Teri of North Carolina and Barbara Lillard Jr. of New Milford, New Jersey; by two great grandsons, John Tompkin of Florida and Brent Lillard of Long Island, New York and many nieces and nephews.

Besides her husband and parents she was preceded in death by seven brothers, Herbert Hampton, Victor Hampton, Fred Hampton, Walter Hampton, Wyman Hampton, Felix Hampton Jr. and David Hampton and by three sisters, Mattie Green, Ruth Stewart and Helen Shelton.

Friends may call at the Rainey-Mathis Funeral Chapel in Dexter on Wednesday, April 27, 2011 from 5 until 8 p.m. Funeral services will be conducted on Thursday, April 28, 2011 at 2 p.., in the Rainey-Mathis Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Michael Woods officiating. Interment will follow in the Malden Memorial Park Cemetery.

Danny Cook, son of the late Elmer Cook and Geneva Bess Cook was born on May 5, 1960 in Advance, Missouri and departed this life at his residence in Dexter on April 24, 2011 at the age of 50 years.

Mr. Cook attended the Lighthouse Christian Center in Dexter, and a resident of Dexter.

Survivors include three sisters, Frances Rossi, Carolyn Eldridge, and Kathy Cook all of Dexter.

Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Claude Cook and Lyman Cook; also by two sisters, Dinna Harlan and Janice Cook.

Friends may call at the Rainey-Mathis Funeral Chapel in Dexter from 5 until 8 p.m., Wednesday April 27, 2011. Funeral services will then be conducted on Thursday April 28, 2011 at 10 a.m., in the Rainey-Mathis Funeral Chapel in Dexter with Rev. Tim Russell officiating. Interment will follow in the Essex Cemetery at Essex, Missouri.

Robert H. “Bob” Barr Sr.
Robert Barr Sr., son of the late Walter Roslle and Grace Livermore was born on December 16, 1927 in Forest Park, Illinois and departed this life at the Crowley Ridge Care Center in Dexter, Missouri on April 23, 2011 at the age of 83 years.

Mr. Barr was the owner and operator of Barr’s Window Cleaning in Dexter, a veteran of the United States Army serving in World War II, member of the Lighthouse Christian Center in Dexter, and a resident of Dexter. Bob was also a member of the Dexter Eagles, Dexter Elks Organization #2439, and participated in O.A.S.I.S. at the Lighthouse Christian Center in Dexter.

On July 23, 1949 he was united in marriage to Eva V. Swatzell in River Grove, Illinois. Mrs. Barr preceded him in death on March 16, 2009.

Survivors include one son, Robert H. Barr Jr. of Dexter; by five daughters, Deborah Hewett of Germanton, North Carolina, Sharon Nielsen of Elk Grove, Illinois, Marilyn Lacy and Roberta Espey both of Dexter, and Carolyn Houseman of Benton, Missouri; sixteen grandchildren, eighteen great-grandchildren, and three great-great-grandchildren; also by a very dear friend, Therma Launius.

Besides his wife and parents, he was preceded in death by one brother.

Friends may call at the Rainey-Mathis Funeral Home in Dexter from 5 until 8 p.m.,Tuesday April 26, 2011. Funeral services will be conducted on Wednesday April 27, 2011 at 11: a.., in the Rainey-Mathis Funeral Chapel in Dexter with Rev. Tim Russell officiating. Interment will follow at the Missouri State Veteran Cemetery in Bloomfield, Missouri with full Military Honors.
